    Re: Welcome!!

Hello, I just found your message board and so far I've really enjoyed looking at the pictures posted here.

I got my first digital camera about 5 years ago. It was a Kodak Easy Share 2.1 MP. Look how far technology has come since then! After that I got a Canon SD600 but my new Kodak M1033 just arrived early this week. I love this camera. One of the reasons I chose it was because of it's compact size. I also liked the idea that it takes HD photos and video. I've been going camera happy all week!

I take pictures just for fun but it's fastly becoming my favorite hobby.

I just came back from the dunes where I took an awful lot of pictures and I'm anxious to download them to the comptuer and see them.

    Re: Welcome!!

    Hi everyone,

My name is Erik and I've been an amatuer photographer since I was about 12 years old. That is too many years ago. Let's just say that was sometime in the 70s. I used to use a 35mm but was given a decent Canon point and shoot as a wedding present 6 years ago and have been using point and shoot digitals ever since. I'd like to think I've taken some decent shots but I've probably taken twice as many bad ones.

I now find myself in the position of being able to justify buying a D-SLR for my side business. In my "spare time" I manage a trade association and we're holding our annual conference next month. I big part of what I do at the conference, besides making sure everything runs smoothly, is taking photos so everyone can look at themselves after the conference and feel all warm and fuzzy. I also produce print advertising and am usually stuck using stock photos most of the time. I'd like to be able to build up an image library of interesting shots.

Anyway, that's why I'm here. I've read a lot of the posts already and will continue to read for a while but don't be surprised to see me starting one of those "Need help choosing a camera" threads sometime in the very near future.

    Re: Welcome!!

Guess I'll give it a shot as well to introduce myself, trust I'm in the right place. I've been a member for a few months as a result of a revival of my interests in photography.

Let’s see? Born Bombay (Mumbai) India of Swiss origin, immigrated to Australia where I grew up completed university and held my first "real?" job for 3.5 years before leaving to travel the world (only ment to be away for 1 year). Have since lived in Switzerland, Singapore, Thailand, North Carolina - USA and now Belgium, who knows where next.

I've only ever been using film SLR's up until about 1 month ago where I invested heavily into digital SLR. Usually carried around 2 cameras one with color film and the other with black & white (B&W is great), both Nikon's, F4 and F-801 and occasionally with an older Nikon FA. Started photography with my fathers fixed lens Minolta. When I was about 13, I earned a few pennies delivering medicines to the elderly and with that saved to buy my own first camera, a Kodak, the one with the plastic 4 bulb flash. Anyway took some photography classes at school; developed my own B&W's back in those days. At university saved to buy a Canon A1 and a couple of lenses. Had my apartment broken into and my entire camera equipment stolen ... That's when I made the move to Nikon with whom I've had great experiences from a service standpoint (while I lived in the US).

I didn't know what I was missing before I got my digital Nikon a month or so ago, a D300, lenses: Nikon 18-135mm (f3.5-came with camera), Nikon 70-300mm (f4.5), Nikon 70-200 (f2.8), Nikon 105mm (f2.8), and Sigma 24-60mm (f2.8), might get the Nikon 18-200mm as well, seems everyone thinks its the best since sliced bread (with Vegemite)?

I like taking pictures of about anything, though I particularly like taking shots of people and scenery. I will do a lens review for 3 of my Nikon lenses, the 70-200mm (f2.8), the 70-300 (f4.5) and my older 70-210mm (f4-assuming it fits the D300), should be interesting, but I am waiting for a sunny day (infrequent here in Belgium). I'll use a tripod to take the VR advantage out of the mix and standard camera settings. If anyone has some suggestions for setting up the lens review I'd be happy to hear. Not sure what’s going to happen to my F4, F-801 and AF, they are in great condition but I'd hate to depart with them.

I guess I've said too much already. Bye for now... Shootme - "Peter"
    Shootme...

Please don't edit and re-post or use my images (not that you'd want to anyway...). without my written permission. Thank you

Welcome Peter! Sounds like you've gotten a lot of mileage out of Nikon gear! I still use an F-801 (US 8008s) on occasion. But my classic FM2N gets most of my film these days. Thanks for reviewing all that gear... we really do appreciate it. As for writing those reviews, you can start here.

    Thanks!

Thanks for the welcome. This certainly is a friendly forum.

I've decided to go with the E-510 and purchased it yesterday. Currently pouring over the manual and browsing the internet for anything E-510 related. I'll be sure to post my impressions and review once I've had a chance to live with it for a while.

Hello all. My name is Tansley. I currently live in California with my wife due to the military. I am from Louisiana originally. I got into photography throught the auto enthusiast group that I hang out with. I used to shoot with a Canon AE-1 with a few lens. Now I use a Canon XTI. I hope the pointer that i recieve from this community will allow me to excel beyond what I feel to be my best.

    Re: Welcome!!

    Hello to the Forum.

My name is Warren Hudson. I live at the Northern end of the Australian Alps, in the Australian Capital Territory.

My intersts in photography are, landscape, seascape and just the ambiance of my working life, which gets recorded often. My favourite themes are pioneers and their heritage and remnant rainforests and looking at the places we race boats at ... which results in a lot of slow travelling.

I have qualifications in photography that I gained at the Canberra Institute of Technology. I worked as a photographer in the scientific and industrial fields for a while. I have also been a teacher of photography. The Australia National Gallery started collecting my art about a decade ago now but they still haven't a clue what my photography is about ... and neither do I really.

I'm a competitive sailor, close to full time. Boats and sailing are a major part of my life. It is impossible to have a real job when you are a boat person.

My greatest dislikes in life are rushing around and running aground ... and my greatest thrill in life is looking at a big ship bearing down on a little boat. That's me in a nutshell.

    Warren.

Hello Warren, WELCOME to the forum!
Ah, Sailing. Another one of my passions. Friends got me hooked years ago, but unfortunately I haven't had the chance to go out for a long time now.

    Re: Welcome!!

    Hi Bruce, Cheers.

My comment that you quoted, isn't as flippent or as falsely modest as it might appear.

I'm a self-submitting artist to the gallery. I submitted work and they liked the work. One of the Curators told me that the Gallery only accepts one submission by an artist in every thousand submissions. I've signed several contracts with the ANG, to collect my work, display it, loan works to other museums, publish and even insure and transport my work, but it is up to me, to give them the work, when I'm ready, Which I'll will do as a museum collection sometime in the next decade or so. Photography is timeless so I've no need to rush.

I'm collected by the ANG as a photographer turned painter. Australian photographers who have taken up the brush have a good track record here. I know where I fit in the jig-saw of Australian art.

I've also written a thesis on applied museum techniques for collecting photographs which I'm pleased to say, with help from your Smithsonian Institute of Technology, and a couple of Japanese museums which were also invaluable to me, when I was a student, things have happened well.

It was the thesis that won the Gallery over towards collecting my work I feel .. I doubt that it was the photographs by themselves. The gallery also likes the fact that I'm a regional artist. One of the then Curators at the Gallery, Bruce Ford told me that very few artists stick with it because they can't make a buck from art. I just don't care if I do or don't, nore have I cared over the last 30 years. It is the doing that I find most rewarding.

I've had over 120 exhibitions not all solo exhibitions. I've sold many works but not one work after I joined the Gallery's collection. Being part of our Nation's Collection was all I've ever wanted to happen as an artist.

Bruce, being a sailor, here is another sailing poster you might appreciate.

    Re: Welcome!!

Thankyou for your fine greeting Susaan. I've been warmly welcomed here. It is good to be amongst photographers.

"A man outstanding in his field," ... I totally agree, he looks every bit of that honour bestowed. That's is a very fine image that you've taken. I like your colour ambience.
The position of the chap walking out of the frame, exudes confidence ... and gives the title a degree of emphasis.

There have been a couple of images on this site that have turned my head. Your photograph is one of them. A fine image.

Yes we certainly are neighbours and good to see. I wish you well. Don't ever hesitate to stop and say hello. I certainly will let you know when I'm looking at your photographs.

To all Forumites, I've started downloading some of my recent images to my album. Do call by and leave your comments ... please don't be shy.

Welcome to PhotographyREVIEW.com, Ken! We have some excellent motorsports photographers on the Sports Photography forum. I am sure you'll be able to get some good technique advice and inspiration there. I used to be a motorcyclist myself but mountain biking took over. I finally gave up my 1998 GSXR 600 last spring. I still think motorcycles are super fun. But I can't do it all

    Hello
Bought a digital SLR (Nikon D50) because I got tired of pictures of the back of my granddaughters head
she is much faster than my point and shoot shutter (lol).
After using it for about a year I really started enjoying taking pictures so I thought I would hang around here and learn as much as I can from every one.
    Thanks in advance
