    Re: Welcome!!

Hi all - unsurprisingly I am new here so thought I should introduce myself. I'm from Mombasa, Kenya and have had a passing, point and shoot, interest in photography for quite a few years and in the last couple of years have become increasingly interested in learning more about the subject so i can take better photos...... but am still a complete novice.

Regrettably I seem to be more of a gear 'junky' than my rather poor skills would merit but I can't help beleiving that bigger and bigger lenses are going to cure all my problems..... My first venture into DSLR was with a Nikon D70 about three years ago and I now have a D300 and a D200 and use, primarilly, a Sigma 150-500mm. I have just bought a Sigma 300-800mm (as it is bound to make me a better photographer )

My main interest is wildlife / nature photography (particularly birds) and have found out the hard way how difficult bird photograhy is (particularly if you don't know what you're doing).

I'm looking forward to learning a lot more and hopefully I'll post a few photos for critique when i pluck up the courage

    Welcome, Kisu.
Don't be afraid to post images for critique. I truly believe the critique forum is our best learning tool. The people here give very honest critiques and I learn from them constantly with not only my own shots but the critiques given of other people's work. Also by offering critiques, you will learn to look at photos and your eye will only improve.
You've got some nice equipment so I hope you learn to use it to your satisfaction.
Looking forward to seeing some stuff.

    Welcome V V.
View and click is a good way to start learning but eventually we all need to find out what we saw isn't reproduced in the image we caught. These are good forums to learn how to get what we wanted.

    Re: Welcome!!

    Hello everyone,
My names Andrew, kinda been around taking some pictures here and there the past 2 years and I like to primarily shoot pictures of automotive things and love going to the drag strip and taking photos there. But anyways, I'm using an out of the box Canon Rebel Xt, with the standard non IS lens. I've got a 75-300 that I've been starting to use alot more lately. Been trying to incorporate a polarizer along with just going out and taking a bunch of pictures and seeing what works and doesn't work.

Welcome to PR. We have quite a few automotive fans as well as the Sports forum. Check out some of the shots. I found I improved more when I quit taking a lot of photos and concentrated more on each one. Still a lot of rejects, though. - TF

Hi from Beijing China. Just joined the site yesterday. I'm an Aussie teaching in Beijing and I've been playing with cameras on and off since uni days in the 70's. The digital world has reawakened my interest in photography and I now use NIKON gear. I'm looking forward to participating on the site and learning more.

    Re: Welcome!!

Hello everyone, Name is Kevin and I live in Southwest Missouri. Referred to this site by a member of a automotive forum. Looking forward to getting into photography and meeting people on this forum, always enjoyed taking pictures with my simple point and shot camera (Powershot 1000 I believe) So this year I decided to take the plunge into a entry level dslr. I just bought a Nikon D3000 with the added Nikkor 55-200mm zoom lens, 16gig sd card, bag, usb card reader, extra battery, remote, and went ahead and got a decent Dolica tripod. I can't wait to start and learn this new world through the lens of my camera! Glad this forum is here and seems like everyone is eager to learn just like I am. Shout out to Franglais for helping me pick the camera best for me, thanks man!

    Re: Welcome!!

Hello I'm ziggy01 and I'm glad I've found this site. There are many posts that I've read with lots of great information. The product reviews are both interesting and valuable to me. So, I look forward to absorbing the wealth of data here and perhaps making a meaningful contribution of my own soon.

I typically shoot Leica, both m and r lenses, but also shoot Hasselblad. Unfortunately, I just don't get the big equipment out very often anymore because my m-6s are so easy to use. Still, when I want more flexibility/control I choose the R's.

I'm particularly interested in talking with other Leica owners/shooters but I can learn from everyone.

    Thanks.

    Re: Welcome!!

Hello everyone. I'm a student and I've been set a photography question as part of my course and wondered if anyone is able to help please ? I don't have a digital SLR (but want one!) the question set is:

When taking photographs with a Digital SLR camera (using the Manual mode) , how do you keep the exposure TTL indicator in the middle of the continuum?

As well as answering this question generally, please calculate the following:

If you take a photograph using the cardinal aperture of f stop 11, at a shutter speed of a tenth of a second, what shutter speed would you need to achieve the same exposure using f stop 22 (for example, if you wanted greater depth of field)?

does anybody know the answer? I'd be grateful for any replies, thank you!
