I am Michael Simon.

I do photography as a second job. Lately I primarily shoot bodybuilding shows and burlesque performers.

I like shooting available light in marginal lighting situations and both these qualify in spades.

I shoot the bodybuilders with a Canon EOS 1D MkIII. For the burlesque girls I use a 5D MkII. They like video which is not my strong suit. But I am working on it.

It is hosted on smugmug. I have around 180K images posted there. They add up quick when you might shoot 16K at a one day bodybuilding show.

Welcome to PR. Your post ended up in the middle of this thread which makes it kind of hard to find. I'm afraid I don't know anything about your Nikon, but try posting your question in the Digital Cameras-General and/or the Nikon forums. You should get a lot more traffic and someone who knows. Hi to everyone, I am Jim from Whyalla in South Australia. I am a newbie to this site.
I am interested in photography of all kinds and I work part time for our local newspaper as a photographer covering mainly social and sports events. My personal preference is sports and in particular motor sports events.
My equipment is a Canon EOS350D (mine) and sometimes a Nikon D70 (the newspapers)
I am forever trying to improve my skills and hope that the good people of this site can assist me in a speedy progress.

This forum has so many experts willing to share knowledge, I'm sure you'll find good advice.
And personally I learn as much from those new to photography because their questions keep me on the ball and some ask questions I'd never thought of asking.

Hi:

I got old before I found out that I love shooting sports, especially endurance events in bad conditions. I also shoot landscape while waiting for the runners to pass by,. I shoot with a Canon 50D(looking to go 7D when the cash flow allows) 17-40 f4, 28-70 f2.8, 70-200 2.8IS and 100-400 f4.5 IS all Canon.

Sometimes I get good stuff. Other times, not so much.

I am an casual photographer and I must admit that I usually just pick up my camera and shoot without taking the time to learn all of the functions/features. Hopefully I can pick up a little knowledge here. Currently have a Nikon D70 and a drawer full of point and shoots.

Hello everyone! I found this forum a few weeks ago and figured I would introduce myself now. My name is Amber and I am by no means a professional photographer although I love taking pictures. I am a stay-at-home Mom to four boys, ages 3-13 who I take pictures of constantly. I live in Oregon and love the Outdoors, College Football, and Travelling. I have shot with a Sony DSC-F828 for the last couple years and it has been ok, for a Point-N-Shoot anyways. But now I am ready to invest in a good DSLR.

I have been reading this forum and trying to educate myself on different cameras before I make my purchase. I am a little overwhelmed by all of the information. Quite honestly, I might as well be trying to read Chinese when it comes to some of the photography speak. *ashamed*

Right now I am looking at the Canon 7D or the 5D Mark II. I am looking for the best camera, that is within my budget, for outdoor sports photography. I take photos of many different things but my main concern is getting a better camera to take photos of my sons playing football. I know a lot of this will depend on the lenses as well, which I also need to educate myself on. But for now I just need to figure out which body to buy. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi all, im Andy and was wondering if anyone has tried the olympus 70-300 lens on a OLYMPUS E450,and if so are they happy with the quality of image. I am thinking of buying one of these lenes. Any help would be greatly appriciated. Will the lack of image stabalization
in this model leave me disapionted with the results. Looking forward to meeting loads of people here who know a thing or 2 about photography, have learned so much already just reading the posts........but be gentle with me, im new here and camera stupit'

Hi all!! My name is Jack, and I was turned on to this forum by my friend Scott. He seems to like it, and that says something!! I live in Culver City, SoCal USA.

Anyway, just got back into photography again. Long (ish) list of previous cameras goes like this:

Canon AE-1 Program
Various point and shoot/disposable cameras
Panasonic (!!) PV-DC 1580 (my first digital, ca. 1998)
Sony FD Mavica MVC-FD97 (second digital camera)
Canon Rebel Ti 35mm SLR
And finally, the reason I'm here:

Canon EOS Rebel XSi

I got the AE-1 Program as a Christmas gift from my mom when I was 14. I had been fascinated by photography for years, and knew that there had to be something better than the Kodak cameras that always seemed to be around. Ultimately, that camera was stolen from my mother's car about a year later when I let her borrow it for some work related function that she wanted to photograph. Needless to say, I was very upset. I still miss that camera. (I just recently found out that they can still be bought and sold all day long on eBay for about $50. I'll probably pick one up just for nostalgia's sake.)

I went through quite a few cheaper film cameras for a few years, when I could be bothered to take any photos at all. (Being a teenager is tough!!)

In 1998, I decided to get a little digital camera just for the hell of it. This was back when PhotoShop Elements came bundled with some computers. Anyway, I got a Panasonic digital. It was inexpensive, fit it my pocket, and was perfect for the little bit of photography that I was allowing myself back then. Unfortunately, Panasonic's customer service was terrible, so when the camera stopped functioning, it went on the shelf, as did my hobby.

Fast forward to 2001, and I received a Sony Mavica as a wedding present. Kind of a decent camera for it's time (2.1 MP), but it was slow and bulky (it has a slot for a floppy disc), and as far as I know, you couldn't change the lens. It worked well enough for a while, but it also stopped working.

In 2003, my wife and I (now ex-wife, by the way) were taking a trip to Africa, and I decided that I'd better get a decent camera for the trip. I ended up buying a Canon Rebel Ti 35mm SLR. I wanted to get whatever the digital equivalent was, but my wife talked me in to getting the film version, a decision that I still regret. (Not that I have anything against film cameras; I just find the digital format more convenient.) It took great photos, but after dealing with the hassle and expense of developing damn near 40 rolls of film, I put the Rebel on the shelf. There's still film in it. I really need to get it developed one of these days.

A few weeks back, I finally got to indulge in a camera for ME. Not a gift, not a compromise (other than price-wise), but a camera that I knew I'd take with me whenever there would be a chance to take some great shots. I jumped in with both feet, and bought a Canon EOS Rebel XSi, which was the best camera that I could afford. I haven't had a chance to really go through the manual, or even to take too many photos with it, but I have to say that when I have had time, I've enjoyed myself immensely. A lot of the knowledge that I gained with my AE-1 Program is starting to come back, and I feel very inspired.

So, I don't expect that I'll be posting much in the very near future, but I do know that I'll be reading through the posts and experimenting quite a bit.

Best thing to do is get out and shoot, even if its on auto, and when auto doesn't do what you want, learn to make the camera do what you want.

I have 4 grown children and used this camera all through their growing up years. I have 3 grandchildren and the 4th one coming any day. I have been using digital for the past 5 years and have just moved to a Nikon D90. I purchased a cheap strobe set and am very frustrated with really bad picture quality. I know it is me and not the camera so I came here looking for help. I always dragged my kids outside to take portraits because I did not have to deal with flash. I really would like to figure out the lighting problems. Hope to learn from all of you. The more I learn the less I feel I know. My friends think I take great pictures but compared to what I see here I have a long way to go

Post a shot or two and ask for critique or ask questions about what you want to look better. The knowledge here is amazing and those with it are very friendly and helpful. Try starting in the Critique forum or in the Studio & Lighting for lighting-specific questions.
