Heya! My name is Andy, and I live in the Rochester,NY area. I've been a broadcaster for the last 23 years, with an occasional interest in photography and shortwave radios. I decided to go back to school a few years ago, and have been taking photography courses at the local Community College. I love being able to compose and develop my own images, and have become a man possessed. My main rig is my trusty Pentax K1000 with a 50 and 70-210 zoom lenses. My new baby is a Mamiya C220 w/105mm lens. I can't seem to get enough shooting time with the C220 lately. I also own a great Panasonic Lumix digital, but still seem to like film better.

    Post Re: Welcome!!

Hi, My name is Kristen. I have always had a passion for photography and just recently decided to take it to the next level.
I am a SAHM that does the books for our family owned retail paint store. I decided to get more involved in photography and hopefully take it to the professional level.
I am currently inrolled in a 6 mth course with New York Insitute of Photography. I have just completed the first lesson and was a little over whelmed. I know they go through EVERYTHING, so I just have to go through the lessons and take what I can out of it.
I came here to hopefully chat and get to know my fellow photographers!!! There are things I get confused on and so happy I have a place where I can come and get some advice.
Looking forward to meeting all of you.

    Re: Welcome!!

Greetings everyone. My name is Bryan and I came across this site as a result of a recommendation by a friend. From what I can tell, it looks like it's a great forum, so I'm glad to be here.

I've been shooting for about 3 years, mainly nature and landscapes subjects. I'm slowly (and anxiously) working towards portraits and possibly event photography. I enjoy other types of photography as well, so I guess I'm somewhat of a generalist - whatever peaks my interest at the time .

    Best regards,

Hi everybody. My name is Marvin and am new here. I have been into photography since high school. In the last 5 yrs I have changed to Digital SLR from film. I am using a Canon 20D with 24-70 F2.8L, 70-200 F4l IS, 580 EX flash assorted filters and a Gossen Digipro F light meter.. I have recently gotten into portrait photography and purchased a Photoflex First Studio set with 2 250w Tungston lights with umbrellas and stands and later puchased a 3' Photoflex Octadome with QL 3200 light with 500w and 1000w bulbs. and a Phototek backdrop stand.

Later I intend to get a couple of monoblocks, 5' Octodome, and a 5D body.

I am looking foreward to learning from everyone here and maybe having some valuable input myself.

    Howdy everyone-

I'm new to DSLR's but not photography. Recently returned from Maine on what could be the best weather I've ever experienced there. Anyway... that visit re-kindled the photo bug that had been dormant for many years. Now I'm looking forward to taking classes and reading up on everything I can get my hands on to take advantage of my cameras potential. Right now this is strictly a hobby for me but who knows??? If I read one of your posts and reply with a stupid question or whatever- just laugh it off and respond in kind- I enjoy a good bit of sarcasm too. So far I've been really impressed by this website/ forum. Keep up the great work everyone, you've got a great site.

Our records indicate that you have never posted to our site before! Why not make your first post today by saying hello to our community in our Introductions forum.

Why not start with your first post today and become an active part Photography & Digital Camera Forums forums now! "

Whew! I saw the above and started looking for Introductions forum after searching a while found another post that directed me here.
Hope this is the correct starting point.

I just arrived less than an hour ago and already have enjoyed this site.

Since I'm here let me ask my first question.
I plan to purchase a Sony DSC H50. I see the memory cards with PRO, DUO, ENTERTAINMENT, etc.
If they all are 4GB then what do I look for when making my choice?
Thanks for all replies, I'll appreciate "multiple exposures"

    Hi gotrocks,

    Welcome to the site!

You are more likely to get a reply to your question if you post it in either the Digital Cameras - General or Sony & Konica Minolta Forum. Sorry, I can't help you personally
Good luck with your new camera - have fun

    Hi all,
It's taken me a while to find but this site is just what I was looking for.
Have been taking a few pics since 2003, just as I got to grips with my minolta x-700(great camera) It was time to go digital. I liked the look of the foveon sensor so started with a used Sigma SD9, then a used SD10 and I now have a new SD14. These cameras don't take the best pics in auto mode but once you get to grips with them they are fantastic.
Anyway hi and look forward to getting some useful advice on my pictures.

    Welcome lordarutha!

I agree that sometimes auto settings don’t work well. My Panasonic FZ7K currently has the menus set up to manual/presets, very rarely on full auto.

If you are looking for advice on your photos, the best place is to upload them to the Photo Critique forum or Photo Critique gallery. Remember to offer feedback on other member’s work in return.

And also, please take the time to write reviews on your gear, especially the Sigma SLRs/lenses.

I typed like three paragraphs introducing myself then firefox crashed when I opened another window so here goes again

34 yr old male from Minnesota, DH in my screen name are my Initials and of course the MN is Minnesota ;)

I started taking pictures years ago with a Kodak Disc Camera...to one of them cheap Vivitar Digital cameras that worked as a webcam also. After that I got a 3.2 MP HP Photosmart that I still use when I go fishing. The next camera I had was a Kodak Easyshare that I got around January.. which turned out to be cheap and terrible qualify, with buttons that felt like an old Nintendo controller and stopped working after 6 months.

Now I've got a Kodak EOS Rebel XS.. I've had that two months so far, and still am using the 18-55 MM lens that was included but will be upgrading to either a 200 or 300 MM IS for sports photos and the long-distance outdoor shots I like the most. Just a couple shots that I have on my website where I post photos I take almost everywhere I go...

They're a bit too large for the posting limits here so I'll place links, but in the future I'll re-size stuff and show the photos

Someday soon I'll start a sports photography website, but that of course comes after I've got my new lens.
