Welcome Bob! I know I learned tons here in my first few months by posting my best in the Critique forum and listening to the comments. (But then, I had a lot to learn.) - Terry

Welcome Carl. I've found this to be a great place to learn. I see that you have already posted one. The Viewfinder forum is sort of our social gathering forum. For serious critique, post an image or two in the Critique forum. Also check out the specialty forums like Sports. - Terry

    Re: Welcome!!

    Hello!

My name is Dylan. As a little introduction I'm from Regina, Canada. I've been shooting for years, but only recently became serious about it. Currently I shoot with a Canon 50D as my full time camera. I have a Fuji X100 which I love! I use it when I can't carry my DSLR and/or lenses, or as an extra camera for an instant 35mm focal length. In the next few weeks I will be getting a Canon 5D M2... ..And keeping it if the infamous autofocus issues don't affect me...

I started with nature photography and a love for silhouettes. Using what I had, which was just a point and shoot. I recently 'refound' photography and decided to invest in a DSLR. A little later I filled my need for a extremely high quality compact camera with something else. Thats how I ended up with my 50D and X100. Since I started using the DSLR I have found an affinity for shooting older vehicles. I realized the potential of long exposures and have been loving those aswell. Around this time I started to shoot people alot. I enjoyed it and many liked my work. I've been doing some wedding photography since then for extra income. Since then I've found myself leaning towards a gritty look for my personal work. Most recently I've been trying to work towards fine art.

I really want to get some feedback on my art. I want to improve it and find my style. The comments I get are almost always good, but never any real constructive criticism. I found this forum in hopes that it could be the place I could learn to critique others work and have mine critiqued. Soon I will be posting in the critique section and contributing to other sections aswell!

    Thanks!

    Re: Welcome!!

Hi Guys, Philip here, just thought I'd say hi and introduce myself
I've been taking photographs for years, as a hobby really but want to develop my skills further. While working in the USA I met and became good friends with the company photographer who took me under her wing and taught me some good skills both with the camera and in the darkroom.

I started off with a 35mm Pentax ME Super, a great little camera (in my opinion). I took some great photographs of the Detroit Train Station which sold well in a local coffee shop which happened to be owned by the photographer friend of mine ;).
I was interested in medium format so Pam (the photographer) bought me an Holger 'toy' camera which I had great fun with, again I managed to produce so 'interesting' photographs which sold quite well. All this time I was putting the money made from the photograpy sales into a pot, and when I had enough money I bought a Mamaya Twin Lens Reflex camera which for all I took some good photographs, I was never very happy with.

It wasn't long before the pot had enough funds in it for me to buy an Hasselblad 501c with a couple of film backs. From the first moment I tried the camera I fell in love (okay, a bit of a dramatisation but it's the best way to describe my feelings), just the sound of the 'clunk' as you take each photograph is an absolute joy. I can't afford a new lens so I just use the Carl Zeiss 80mm F2.8 Planar Lens that came with the camera. I have bought a Polaroid back for the camera which has come in quite handy.

Recently I've just started a Portrait Photography class and a Practical Photography Level 2 class at Bishopsgate Institute in London which I'm finding very useful indeed. The portrait photography class in particular is teaching me many techniques that, when looking back at some of my previous work makes them appear very amature indeed!

Anyway, enough rambling on, I hope I'll be able to contribute to this forum in the future and look forward to joining in with you all.

    Cheers,
    Philip

Hello there, I'm a newbie to the forum. Wanted to introduce myself, I've been a photography nut for as long as I can remember. I'm hoping to learn some new things here and I'm looking forward to seeing everyone's photos. I started out in the 1960's with a Kodak (OK so that sort of ages me, LOL), in the early 1980's I got my first 35mm, a Minolta XG-7, and currently I use a Canon SX20 IS.

I guess for my second post, I will introduce myself. I have been an amateur photographer since high school. I have a new Nikon D 7000 and am dying to ask a question I hope someone can answer. I am watching the Blue Crane videos.

Hi, I'm afraid I already know the answer, but I'll ask anyway. I've just been re-united with an OM-10 I originally bought 30 yers ago. Is there a digital back compatible with it?

    Re: Welcome!!

Hello, new to the forum and recently returning to photography. I started back up in April and it quickly became a passion. My camera goes with me everywhere, I spend Saturday and Sunday taking pictures and leave the house before sunrise.

I use a Canon Rebel xs, the kit lens 18-55mm, tamron 75-300 and my primary/favorite Canon 50mm 1.8 which is attached to the camera 98% of the time. I learned recently how valuable that lens is, but more about that in another post.

Where I am at now: I want to get another camera, but at my level don't see the need to go to a professional level when I will not get my money out of it (I have a friend with a $3,000 camera and it did nothing for his ability to see a picture).

At the moment my belief is the lens (versatility) and tripod (sturdiness) have as much or more value as the camera. I am considering getting a Tamron AF 90mm f/2.8 Di SP A/M 1:1 Macro Lens and maybe a Canon T3i rather than spend money on higher end camera.

Okay, topic not meant for this section, but guide me to the best section and I will start up a more detailed discussion there.

I think I am going to like this place
