The people! We are the coolest bunch on the web! I like the tone and the atmosphere of the place. We are helpful and fun, without being pandering or overly critical. I have met Photo-John and several of the PR members and I like who they are as people. I look forward to meeting many more!

What I am trying to accomplish with my photography:
What I am ultimately trying to do is bring out of the incredibleness of nature and show people "Look! This is what you can go find!" I want people to return to nature and find the real beauty there. But I also take snapshots because I am bored of course and like everyone else here I am also the "dedicated photographer" at family gatherings.

The nick: almo, everybody thinks it is my real name, but in truth I took it off the back of a Lazlo Bane cd.

Main interests: Ummmm...Photography of course, but equally I am into herptiles (read as amphibians and reptiles). Pythons and boas are my main passion in that catagory. I'm also an advid nature nut. I love birds, though not as pets. Come on you gotta have something you like to see wild and free! I'm also into computers, reading, music, and *looks at the celing* mountian biking...

My main photo intrest is in documenting the natural world around me. I live in a great place for this pursuit. Equally I love to document the city I live in, Jacksonville Florida, its people, and landscape. I also like to play with digital effects in Photoshop, and abstractions.

At this time I have no occupation, but that doesn't mean that i don't keep myself occupied. I am a volunteer with a local nature center, where I get to play with the animals and comune with nature all day long....

Lets see here, I am American by birth, Southern by the grace of God. I have a formal education from the school of hard knocks, and a P.H.D. in getting my ass kicked. I'm 25, but due to a strange imbalance of juices in my brain I have the the mental maturity of a middle aged adult, and the attention span of a fly. Lucky for me I am on a new medication for the attention span thing, but I am just doomed to be hoplessly boring.

I love this website, and I have an odd tendency to cut myself. Not because I want to of course, it just seems to happen alot.

I have one camera - my precious Leica M4
With that I have one lens - my precious 35mm f/2 summicron ASPH
My 50 summilux f1.4 got stolen - waiting for the insurance claim
I only shoot at these 2 focal lengths in 35mm. I wish to expand to medium format and acquire a 80mm (50mm equivalent) and 150mm (90mm equivalent). Then I'm complete. I'm not really a big fan of super telephoto cuz I dont like photographing sports (makes my head spin watching sports through a camera) and definately not wildlife. Plus super telephoto shots of people are not very interesting.

Other interest also includes my audio collection. single ended triode tube amp, directly heated triodes 8WPC stereo. Spins vinyl from classical to rock and plays CDs as well. Built the amp myself and am very proud of it. BTW, to those of you who look down on 8WPC saying that its not enough power...I assure everyone that 8WPC is enough power for any efficient or ultra efficient speaker!

There is nowhere near me that develops, so digital it is. Plus I think that I've gotten much better since I went digital, not afraid to shoot more, and I can see what works and what doesn't right away. But when I have more time and space, I'm going to try processing my own b&w.

What I like about Photographyreview.com:
Variety of interest/ages/stages/goals. Everyone isn't trying to do the same thing. And everyone (okay, those I've met) have been just as nice in person as they are online.

What I am trying to accomplish with my photography:
When everyone else whips out the photos of thier kids, I want mine to be the best It helps of course, that my kids are so good looking...
Seriously, time goes by so quickly. When I am old, I want to be able to look back at photos I've taken over the years, and remember the moment, not the outfit. And I'd like the girls to be able to do the same.

Most used:
Pentax *istDS and K-1000, though I like having the old 50/2.0 off of the K-1000 on both of them so much, I may have to pick up a spare. Ilford Delta 100 has become my standard film, since the DS can take care of quick shots and low light shots now. The Bentley has probably taken more photos in the last week than the others, loaded with Ilford HP5 (400) because it stays in my car.

Why I prefer film or digital:
I love my Pentax *istDS, shoot more than I have it, and am improving dramatically because of it, but the tonal range, the quirks, the smell of developer that you get with film isn't there in any entry level DSLR I have seen. Also, I have begun a somewhat neglected love affair with medium format and am DYING to throw some 4x5 in the Polaroid Land Cameras once spring hits. I need more money or fewer formats!

What I like about Photographyreview.com:
Definately the people, the attitude that there is no "best" anything (equipment, format, subject). No bickering about what's "professional."

What I am trying to accomplish with my photography:
When I was 14, I was living in a very well off, professional area and going to school with kids whose parents worked for the likes of AOL and the CIA. Growing up in Alabama, I had some trouble relating. They'd never even seen my word, much less knew what it was like. On a trip down to visit relatives, I had just begun photo class and put my first roll of TMAX through my new-to-me K-1000. I didn't know what "street photography" was, but I knew that there was quite the little buzz when I started printing up my photos and, grudgingly, allowing them to be displayed. I also knew that just for a brief second, they understood. I want them all to understand.

PJ has somehow managed to get this to hang together as a community that has grown to be more like family than just an on line forum in many ways.

What I am trying to accomplish with my photography:
I guess I want to try and capture what makes some scene interesting to me. I want to show what is there. People who see my stuff are often surprised to find out that they are pictures of things they see all the time but have never really noticed. I try to convince myself that I am capturing the essence of the subject -its Gestalt sort of.

Film is it. Photography is a photo/mechanical process, not a photo/digital one..
Besides, film is more intimate and personal than looking at images on a computer screen...

It's a toos-up, I've been doing a lot of B&W darkroom stuff with the N80, and I'm trying to learn the D70 and and be competent with all the features and abilities.

Why I prefer film or digital:
I love the instant gratification of digital, but being in the darkroom, with film is amazing.

Ok I'll play the game, allthough I think most of the regulars are pretty familiar with me since I usely share a lot about my family and our activities.


My name is Larry one that was very common back in the dark ages when I first came on the scene.

The handle Old Timer is pretty obvious if you take a look at my profile picture. I've been around for a while.

I'm Nikon Samuari #13, because 13 has been my number since little league back in the 50's and I just can't give it up.

I was born and raised in the great Commonwealth of Kentucky and still live in a small town (pop 3000) in the northeastern part of the state.

I have been married for 33 years to my beautiful wife Joy and we have four children three of them married and will be grandparents for the first time this May.

Even thought the time is getting ripe I have no plans to retire and don't really think I ever will.

I'm afraid my only language is Redneck with a slight accent.

I have a BA degree in Radio and TV and a teaching major in History but never entered the class room as a teacher much to the delight of thousands how could have been in one of my classes. My wife is a life long educator with a string of letters after her name.

I am currently and insurance agent, but owned and operated an auto parts store for 28 years.

I attend church regularly and feel my life is better for it.

You are eligible to vote at 18 in KY and I have never missed that opportunity. I hve been in politics and served in city government for 10 years, six of those as the major of my hometown.

Photography has been my main hobby for many years but I also enjoy fishing, camping, woodworking, cooking and I read a lot for some one that had to be forced to picup a book in high school.

I got serious about photograph in 1968 when I got my first SLR and was employed as a staff photographer for my college yearbook. I guess that was about 37 years ago.

My first 35mm camera was a Petri range finder followed closely by a Pentax H1a and than the Nikon F.

I have not been able to attend any PR gatherings but hope to in future. I would very much like too meet face to face (or lense to lense) with some of those that I have gotten to know here on VF.

I stumbled across PR when doing a search for photo sites don't know what search engine I was using.

I started lurching here sometime in 2002 I think but didn't start psoting pictures untill I got a digital in April 2003. I still don't have a scanner, but would love to have one so I could share some the thousands of slides and prints that I have from the last 30 plus years.

I love Viewfinder because of the people. This is the most caring and giving group of people I have ever been associated with.

I enjoy all aspects of photography and can truely say I don't a favorite subject matter. Sports, macro, family and candid shots take up a large part of my portfolio.

I have been a Nikon shooter since 1972 and all you need to do is check out the Camera Family thread to get a peek at some of my equipment.

I love film and have several film cameras but the D70 has opened up a whole new love for photography with me. I have taken more images in the last year since I got the D70 than I did in the 5 years before.

I want to continue to grow as a photographer and the environment here at PR and on VF and the Critique Forum are the best place that I have found to do that. Thanks to all you guys that comment on images and give thoughtfull and insightful critiques.

I agree with a previous poster who suggested that all those in Congress and the Senate should wear clown suits. It is so appropriate for most of what they do.

Why I prefer film or digital: I don't have the patience for film, plus I rarely get it right in the camera the first time round so digital enables me to correct my mistakes before I go to print.

Well, maybe a little more Republican in theory, but in practice that's not always the case. Example: If Republicans are the conservative group, then why would we drill Alaska for more oil? Wouldn't it be smarter to use less of it? Then we could use it later if needed, rather than wasting it now (I realize "now" is actually several years away...). I'm much more socially liberal.
