Re: Greg McCary in serious accident

Greg is now at Shepherd's Hospital in Atlanta. It is an EXCELLENT (one of the top 10 in the country) facility. I am confident Greg will progress rapidly there. His transfer went smoothly. Greg asked me to update (he cannot use his laptop until he has a "locked" desk in his room) as he will be in and out of his room for therapy.

He is in a lot of pain and may have some nerve damage, but overall he is remarkably well for all he has been through. I am so proud of him!! I told him today he is now on 3rd base and to hang in there, home plate is in sight.....

    As always, Thank You everyone!!

Thank you Susaan, Greg is doing great. He walked approx 15 feet unassisted! He is still wearing his halo and it weighs about 35 pounds, so I can just imagine when that comes off..... he'll probably try to fly...LOL.

Don't worry, he knows my sense of humor by now. Just wanted to let everyone know how good my man is doing...

Thank you Rick, Peter, Steve and Liz, you all are the bestest, as so many others have been too. Your kind words are like little pick me ups and kind smiles and pats on the back when you are tired and last but not least slices of apple pie with ice cream on top!

Blue sky wishes to you all....Nora
I've had a hard time getting through to Greg today, he says I always call when a dr is in the room, etc. He stays really busy (a good thing), he gets a work out and lots of care from Shepherd's, they are quite impressive.

Update: Greg gets his trach taken out sometime next week. Yeaaaah! He continues to improve daily. He eats regular food now. He told me today ice cream and tea don't mix. (no, they don't)..... Greg's physical therapy is rigorous. They really work him out and that is good. His therapy in the am starts at 0730. But he's hanging in there and thank you all too for hanging in there with us during this time!! Nora

Re: Greg McCary in serious accident

Greg nor anyone here really knows me, but just a note from a new member to say Best Wishes, and healthy recovery. In an EXTREMELY VERY SMALL way I can relate - had some issues w/ sciatic nerve getting pinched in left arse cheek, so was very painful to walk, sit, stand, lay down, anything for a few weeks a couple months ago... still slight pain at times, but that is nothing at all compared to what you and your husband are going through, except during those times for those thankfully brief weeks it felt like I'd never improve, not ever be able to walk, sit, stand, etc. 'normal' again. Yesterday, was able finally to ride my bike for the first time... was great. Guess point of this rambling mess is to keep up the faith, do as best you can per the Docs', therapists', and nurses' orders... and know that there is a light at the end of that tunnel. And its going to be from a strobe/flash from a camera held by your loved ones and friends [real and virtual] cheering you on. Again, best to yas both.

Re: Greg McCary in serious accident

Thank you paul, greg, frog and shadowcaver (welcome to PR shadowcaver, you will find a great group of people here).

Paul, I am so not a star.... ( thank you for your kind words though)
I rarely get to visit Greg due to he is out of town and my working many hours and caring for Anna. Greg understands and that is what matters.

Greg is now using a walker, but mostly just for balance, his next step is crutches and before he leaves Shepherd a cane. (Hint: he may be leaving the middle of May but we both don't want to make a big deal of it in case we jinx things... He gets his Halo off in one week!

Speaking of stars, lately Anna has been noticing the evening sky and for several nights in a row she made a wish on her first star sighting and each time she says, "I wish my Daddy gets better". It is so precious and straight from her heart.

I am very glad her star wishes are coming true.

    Night all, Nora

    Nora,

Thanks for posting all the updates and it just feels so good to know that Greg is getting better so quickly! Wow! He certainly has made GREAT strides these past weeks.

You're awesome Nora! The dark clouds are moving away - and the rainbow has appeared! Even Anna is aware of something really good happening! The prayers and good wishes keep coming your way! We're all there for Greg, you and Anna - and all concerned.
