This is an adult yellow-crowned heron, I don't believe I have seen one YET this year

Coopers indeed, but it isn't a young one as the first image made me believe.

And I HAD BETTER BE GOOD at raptor IDing, since I do count migrating raptors for scientific records of migration patterns

GREAT IMAGE LL ! The pileated appears to be a male, but is lacking the second red patch near the beak. maybe it's a young male?

I love that tricolored image too!

Wow! Just had to come in here and say that I've seen most of the bird images - and there are a lot of amazing shots here - many/most of birds I've never seen before.

It's a pleasure to see how well this thread is going!

warning though US species are my forte' , so don't be suprised it I can't ID your images from asia ;) I will do my best to ID as close to the actual species as I can.

POST any image(good or bad) as long as there is some detail to the bird. TELL ME ... WHERE and WHEN also

Here's a female blackburnian warbler 2 feet from the ground. If anyone knows the behavior of said species, you will know that they are TREE TOP foraging birds She was in migration and I caught her feeding for her next 100 mile nocturnal flight. Yes warblers and most other songbird migrate at night and are tracked by dopler radar by a few people .

BTW.. This is a film scan from about 4-5 years ago?
