The only bird I can think of with that basic coloring, beak and build is A. Goldfinch, but something about it just seems really wrong to me besides the eye ring.

    VERY decieving image here.
I thought it was a female painted bunting. Could that be a hotspot on the tail?

YES it very well may be. I am 99.50% sure it's a painted bunting!

Well Paul here's another to help you reach your goal, shot this tonight 8/2. Went back to where I shot the Magnolia Warbler, they mowed down the field so the birds probably moved on , this guy was in a tree at the edge of the field.

this APPEARS to be a tricolored heron under mid day sun(hot spots)

That leg color is only present on young snowy egrets, little blue heron and tricolored heron

    AH HA... grey jay ;)

Where are my pheonix images from the botanical gardens ;)

Here is an easy image to get WHITE WINGED DOVE at 12 feet from the DBG in pheonix. It's a very bad convert from a few years ago though ;)

It is a juvi lil' blue. And I must take exception to you calling those spots hot. It was like 7am when I took that shot. No sun in the sky.

Most didn't have a clue what the bird was, the man who IDed it as a Magnolia but wanted to see more shots said Prairie after seeing the shot from the back. I had also posted a side view, I'm not sure all pictures are of the same bird but they were all the same type of bird. The other forum is a birding and wild birds, mostly backyard birders but I have gotten many ID there.

    WELL..

I can ID birds ;) LINK ME

Your first looked like a young prairie, but magnolia seemed a better match.

like I said , warblers in fall (this is considered early fall for some species) are TOUGH. ID's come down to a tiny marking on some birds!

I know these warblers are tough, different looks in spring and fall then you throw in the juvies. Here's an easy one so how about IDing its lunch.
