My youngest daughter has been playing Upwards Basketball for the past couple of months. Friday night was their awards ceremony. Last year they put up photo's of the teams that family members had taken. This year, they did a power point presentation instead. So I got all my Upwards images into a file, and scanned them onto a CD for the director.
When I gave the CD to the director, he told me they were going to project them 20' X 20' on the wall! That's when I got nervous. I was afraid the images would be grainy. Friday night came, and I was amazed at how well the images showed up. They projected the team photo's, snapshots taken by other parents, and my photo's.
The lovely wife asked me if I used a filter for my shots. When I told her no, she asked why my photo's weren't dark, and yellow like everyone elses. So I told her I used my external flash, set it to balanced fill flash, and used a fairly wide apeture. Then to put it in terms I knew she would understand, I told her it was three years of practice and all those thousands of dollars she'd spent on gear, film, and processing. THAT, she understood! ;-)
It was quite a feeling watching my images being displayed 20 feet tall. While I'm not a Sports Illustrated photographer by any means, my shots were clear and bright, and gave me a sense of accomplishment. I hope everyone here gets to know what that feels like!
