    Friday night downtown

Here are few architecture shots taken last night. I am not used to it and I have an hard time with perspectives. Perhaps my lense (Tamron 28-75 XR Di) isnt the most suitable for that kind of work but I suspect that I make thing worse by the way I locate myself while shooting these (I don't know how to improve this though). I cropped and slightly rotated most of them. Any comment is welcome.

    Love the Wall

I love the wall shot, it looks like something for a microsoft brochure or website. Not crazy about the stairs. (perhaps a low angle from the base of the building filling the frame, although I couldn't tell if that was possible). The Hotel is a good subject but I would like to see more light trails from passing cars. Good eye

    Hi Seb,
Photo 1’s white light trail is a bit distracting. Try to capture only the rear red light may be better.
I think photo 2 has a lot of potential. The stairway is an interesting subject.
For photo 3, try to capture another shot with people to reflect the size of the building.
Generally, the shots are of low contrast, thus the colours are muted. Do they reflect the real colours?
    All the best.

Hello Troose, A very low angle from the bottom of the stairs (perfectly centered) was my basic idea here (probably the easiest and most appropriate way to achieve a dramatic effect). Unfortunatelly, a row of trees fairly close from the building preventend me from going far enough from the stairs to make it. I don't mean to blame my tools but that situation (and several others situtations encountered last night) screamed ''wide angle!!".

I shot these stairs nearly 20 times and it always lead to ackward unpleasing perspective lines. I intend to rent a wide angle lense in few weeks to test it for myself. If it work, I will certainly buy one.

Thank you a lot for your imput.

    Hello Yoyo,

Do you feel that I have underexposed my pictures? Now that you are pointing out the situation, I realise that these shots doesnt have the sparkle of some of my previous work. I'd say that the color rendering is fairly realistic but there is arguably something wrong going on. Thank you for pointing out that weakness. For the first time ever, I left the hood on all the time. I believe that it took care of all the flare problem I had before but I wonder if it had an effect on the camera metering somehow.

Thank you for your hint regarding light trails.

    Hi Seb,
Expose them at +1 EV should help. Did you shoot them in a raw format? If yes, use the exposure compensation in the raw to tiff conversion.
    All the best.

    Hello Yoyo,

Actually these were all shot in jpeg fine. I will bracket the next time to get different exposures and have a broader selection of pictures.

    regards
