For JETA - The BIG BOYS!

    JETA,
Here are a few shots of the big boys from the Warren Central vs East St Louis game. Yes, these ARE high school kids
What can I say, they grow em big here in Indiana (hey, we are in the top 10 of fattest states!) .... must be all that patatoes, corn and steaks....

Warren Central is one of the top football teams in the country, while East St Louis has 5 state track champions. The score of the game: Warren won 70-50

Wow...those are some big boys. I almost mistook them for cows.

Excellent pictures of line play. I haven't shot had a chance to shoot a football game yet, but I would love to get some line pictures like that.

Re: For JETA - The BIG BOYS!

A year ago I wouldn't take line shots, but for some reason this I am. I guess it's due to the fact I know a couple big linemen who also wrestle at another school and their "d" line coach is a friend as well. But I found you can get some real neat stuff shooting the linemen.

    Thanks for the complements!

nice shots (oops, typo before), and they certainly are big guys. I mistook them as college players. What's your EXIF data on these?

These are sRGB - shutter 1/160, focal length 110mm (varies shot to shot), f2.8 (Sigma 70-200mm), center wieghted avg metering mode.

All were manual mode (including WB which was set for flash) and yup, flash was used.

    Hope that helps!

Re: For JETA - The BIG BOYS!

JS you totally rock! I'm going to show these to my sons when they get home today.

I'm sure my one son who plays varsity football is going to ask me why I can't get shots like yours! LOL!

I read ahead. You are using a flash? Let's see. Now that I got my new lens, filter, gray card, memory card. I think I need a new camera and flash. Sheesh. What a hobby I have.

Do you have more photos of football?

Honestly, I can't get over the size of these kids. To me never in a million years would I guess these guys any less then college aged.

My son (who plays football) is 6' 1" and 266. He is always getting comments. By your pics I'd say a lot of these guys are much bigger. His friend who is on the line is 6'7". He's the 2nd tallest kid in their hs. My other son (I have 3) who plays baseball is 6'4" and under 200. So he's a slim trim dude. Anyway, I'm just being a blabber mouth. I got all excited seeing those pics! Thank you!
    It's not blurry. It's bokeh.

Re: For JETA - The BIG BOYS!

No problem, I always have "more" football photos....

Ummm, take one game last week, the shortest player was 5'7" the tallest 6'8" lightest 137lbs heaviest 308 with averages 6'2" and 220lbs...avg!

See we don't just feed em well here, this IS Indiana so we stretch em too so they can play basketball as well as football

I think if you took all the football teams (311) in Indiana the average number of players on each team would be 75.

Football is taking over the state as the number 1 sport, especially in spectator numbers which is amazing considering the number of games played and the number of schools involved. There are somewhere around 390 schools that play basketball.

Which uniforms? The white are East St Louis (Il) while the black are Warren Central. I kind of liked East St Louis's uniforms, a bit more flashy than most high schools, especially here in Indiana. As for black uniforms, these are better than my old school wears, they are all black. Makes headaches for QB's in night games as the defenders get lost in the background and when my team has the ball it is hard to tell who has the ball when running the option.

Re: For JETA - The BIG BOYS!

    JETA,

A couple football shots, and one baseball shot.

The pitcher: now in college, this was a high school game shot this past spring. He was one of the top pitchers in the state, 6'1 or 2, and around 225. He was also the county home run king. Set a new school strike out record (19 in one game) breaking his brothers record, who had broken their fathers record! His father was the coach for both his sons records.

The football pictures here are from the smallest school in the county (team in blue). They are a 1A school, while Warren Central from the other photos is a 5A school. This team though has just 38 players on it's varsity roster of which just 3 are seniors. However, what they lack in numbers they make up for in size. One 300 lb lineman, several 265 and up. One 6'7" tight end...
The team in white is big too, but couldn't handle either team from our county losing this game 19-0 and a week earlier 42-12.

Speaking strictly for myself, I think both would look better in more 'traditional' uniform styles. I've never been a fan of uniforms that are all solid colors in football. The East St Louis unis just seem too busy for my tastes. Wide stripes down the sides have never been appealing to me, but like I say, it's my own personal taste. I'm sure there are many who disagree. Just a question of aesthetics, I suppose.

Ok, I see what your saying. We were actually surprised by the East St Louis uniforms, pretty flashy for a very poor school that literally can't afford athletics. I have heard that a manufactuerer gave them these. In a way though I like them. Warren's on the other hand just plain fit them and their school perfectly. Long story on that reasoning though.

I love the 2nd football shot! What happened with the pass?

My one son who is a pitcher will love your pic. Nineteen homeruns? OMG, that is unreal!

No, he pitched 19 strikeouts in one game... I think he did hit three homers in one game though.

OK good. I couldn't figure it out.

Still totally unreal. I think my son's best is 17 or 18 and that was quite a few years ago.
