    Skeletal Remains

Fortunately there was a big rock to stand on to take this. Otherwise I was in weeds up to my neck.LOL. With all of that do you feel the structure is to centered considering the lean to part on the left? Also is the trees on the right to much? I have a closer crop but feel this one might be the best since it is more open.

    Re: Skeletal Remains

I think the skeleton of the building plus that fog make for a very eerie combination...I'd be interested to see that second crop. This may also work very well as a b&w

Greg, I like it but think I would crop the top off down to just below the top group of limbs on the tree to the right and leave the darker middle section in tact, Jeff

    Re: Skeletal Remains

Very cool stuff, I do not think it is too centered, I think its framed perfectly. The thing I think could be improved is a slight boost of contrast in the foreground, to bring out the shape and texture of the skeleton building. Withought boosting contrast in the sky or background, of course.

    Re: Skeletal Remains

Maybe a little more light on the grass in front would help.

I love this. Divided on the crop idea. Could we see a cropped edit?

    Re: Skeletal Remains

Here is a cropped version. Don I will try and dodge the grass or maybe layer the shot. I though maybe this cenetered it to much and lost a little of the overall atmosphere.

    Re: Skeletal Remains

I like the first one as far as placement of the structure goes. I think there is maybe a little too much blank sky in that though.

    Re: Skeletal Remains

I like the crop version much better, it focuses the subject much more. The only other comment I have is that the building almost gets lost in it's suroundings. The building framework the grasses and trees are all very close to the same shade of brown. Can you revisit at a spring sunrise when the grasses are green? Just a thought.

    Re: Skeletal Remains

I agree with the statement it needs somehow to be seperated from the background. I pushed the saturation and could get little more character out of the wood, oh well. The b&w sounds interesting. Thanks again Don the more open shot is growing on me more. Maybe a large print will do it justice. I also agree the blank sky on the left hurts it. That was why I tried the tighter crop.
One more thing. I doubt this will survive until spring. I think it is being taken down peice at a time for the wood. That is happening more and more around here.

Yeah, if the left side could pop out like the right side does it would be excellent.

    Re: Skeletal Remains

This is the crop with a few adjustments also. I kinda like the tree on the right side in the photo. I think including the tree gives it more of a feeling of a scene instead of just a picture of an old building, Jeff

    Re: Skeletal Remains

Far cry from that pile of debris, eh, Greg. Nice work. I love barns too. I prefer Jeff's edit or the original with the tree. I think including the tree gives a nice sense of place. I think the barn is placed in the frame perfectly. Your cropped version without the tree is too centered.

    Re: Skeletal Remains

Jeff I actually had an edit like that but thought the horizon was to centered, but I do like it a lot. It takes out the negative sky on the left. Thanks EOS. Barns are disappearing in a hurry around here. What's wrong with these young people any way, raping our land?

    Re: Skeletal Remains

On my move back west, I took a wrong turn and got to tour a bunch of farm country in Iowa. There are a lot of old barns out there, with many rotting slowly back into the ground. I wish I would have had more time (and one of my SLRs), I'll have to spend some time there shooting barns someday. I noticed a bunch with a square of quilt design on them, each with a different pattern and colors on them.

    Re: Skeletal Remains

Greg, to keep the horizon from being too centered, do you think the image would lose much if the foreground grass was cropped until just the top of the boulders (I think that is what they are) on the left are still showing? This is a great subject and I agree with the majority on keeping the tree in the shot.

    Re: Skeletal Remains

This one's interesting Greg, though I'm not sure it's a portfolio-level shot. It seems to be a tad dark in the detail areas, very muted .. Some may say that this makes the shot, though. It does create a gloomy feel. It also seems unsharp or maybe over processed. A photo like this, with all its tiny details, really begs to be razor sharp, requiring a tripod.

Thanks GB. I did use a tripod and the original is pretty sharp when enlarged in post. I may have lost something on the resize.
