Pied Billed Grebe - What remains of the family

Last month, several Viera Wetlands photographers were busy documenting a new Pied Billed Grebe family where the chicks had hatched and just started venturing out of the nest with their parents.

Well, since that time it appears that the entire family unit was destroyed by predators, with the exception of one chick and one adult. Today (6/8/10) I got some shots of the two survivors of that Pied Billed Grebe family.

It has been a bad year for bird chicks at Viera..............
