    Memory Remains

I don't know why I did not post this earlier, but here goes... this a street with "Traditional Character"... the wall has long been fixed since I took the image...

So what don't you like about it? what could have been better?

Thanks for taking the time to elaborate on your opinion, both positive and negative!

    Cheers

    Very poignant and powerful image,

I was going to ask if it was taken in Beriut, but decided that was not necessary after looking at your location, and the plates on the car. Having served for a very short time in Lebanon I can almost hear the AKs and RPGs. Such a shame, it was not so long ago that Beriut was one of the most beautiful cities in the World.

Great shot, if there was a museum on man's inhumanity this Photo should be in it.

Yes, however, the somewhat "ironic" element here, is that when I took the photo, the street where it's at was and still is, the primary location for clubbing... the street is now boosting, as are many other parts in the country... and every once in a while, you get a glimpse, much like the above wall... as to what things looked like, after the wars...

If ever you find yourself here, Gemmayzeh is the name of the street!

Interesting image MK...with a special flavor to it. The first thing that popped in my head was that the the wall in the first plane should stand out from the rest of the composition with a stronger character, some how bold it from the rest of the composition....maybe bluring the rest or darkening it a little.

Hmm... the blur is not a bad idea... I'll give it a shot.... thanks!

    Marc,

Are you Lebanese? My Grandfather, Thomas Slayman, and his sister Rajaha, came to the US in 1907 from Hammara, Lebanon (at that time Syria). Small world.

    Re: Memory Remains

A stereotypical image of Beirut Marcus, at least in my mind ... I think a LOT of Americans and Europeans think of a scene like this when we hear that word (maybe not justifiably, as most of the warfare there was decades ago).

I like your image but wish it was sharper. I'll take it as it is though. Too bad there's not a person or two walking through the alleyway.

    Re: Memory Remains

Yes I am... and figured your lineage from the family name... the world keeps getting smaller...

GB, thanks for the input... Now that you mention it, yes, it could have been a bit sharper... unfortunately though, the wall has been fixed... I was thinking of having a before and after shoot, of the street... it's been about 3-4 years... would be interesting... As for the people... it's a bit weird, since it's a very busy street, and I did not wait for it to be empty... just did not wait too long!

I'll post some that might reflect better what things look like nowadays....

I love it. Whatever you did in post works perfectly, IMO. I would second the call for more sharpness, though. Terrific image.

    Marcus,
Lets see, if my great-grandmothers lamb drank at your great-grandfathers well does that make us cousins. I would like to see more of Beriut, especially the areas that have been rebuilt. Again a very powerful image.

    Re: Memory Remains

dray, thanks... for this one the post did not involve much actually... regular color touch up and added the vignette...

Bill, we might be...lol... this is one small place... I have a shoot prepared for the new Beirut... will be sure to post them...
