    Patterns

This one is a little different from what I normally shoot, but I kind of like how it turned out. I welcome any feedback on what could work better. I'd like to do more shooting around towns and cities so any pointers would be helpful.

    Thanks,

    PC

    Re: Patterns

wow, interesting one. To me there's two parts to this image- upper and lower. I'm more drawn to the upper half with it's strong geometric shapes. The bottom half's OK but seems a tad busy (maybe even more than a tad). I like the people in it, but none of them are big enough or well lighted enough to really say it's a person shot. I guess that middle statue or what not is the subject, but .. it may be too small. Really think the upper half can stand on its own.

    Re: Patterns

I find the architectural aspect to be the strongest here...which is pretty cool.

    Re: Patterns

I definitely like it as is, but can see other possible variations of it as well. That location would be a fun one to spend some time at. The chosen processing is good, emphasizing texture and shape. Good call...

It feels a tiny bit off/tilted, as you can see by the line in the sidewalk. It might also be fun to play with the DOF and framing a little to emphasize the statue in the middle, and draw you into it a bit more. The architecture already does this a bit, but it'd be interesting to see how you could improve upon that.

Still, I think it's a fine photograph as is, just has some possibilities that would be fun to explore..

Hey, very cool shot. I have nothing negative to comment on with this one. The mood is perfect for the B & W.
    Thanks

Looks great, PC ! Really love the patterns here !

One thing I suspect is that the sensor plane was not parallel to the main building that this image could use a slight degree of horizontal perspective adjustment.

    Still a great catch !

    great picture!

I can see how if the people walking in the bottom right were not in there it would be a stronger image. I like it as is. it is very cool and a very interesting place.

    Re: Patterns

    Great shot!
The camera was definately not tilted, it's an optical illusion.
Yes, the sensor plane was not in line with the building, however, I fixed that for me to check it out and the photo lost it special tension.
I think the sidewalk and its dragging towards the viewer at the left side gives this photo the right kick. But the nice thing on this example is, that you can violate the rule of thirds and keep it in just one picture (the center/bottom of this picture are total symmetric - the violation, the peripherals, top/left/right, are following the rule). I think that makes it so interesting to watch. I don't think the people on the right bottom are distracting, it makes it more real life.
    I like it,
    Mike

    Re: Patterns

Thanks for all the nice comments. Finding the right spot here was a bit of a challenge, partly due to all the lines and partly because I was standing in the street. The street itself slopes (down to the left) so that's why the sidewalk looks the way it does.

My real question was whether to include the people or not. Most of my shots are sans people, but that leaves them somewhat lifeless.

At any rate, thank you all for the comments and feedback. It is very much appreciated.

    Re: Patterns

PC I really like it, you might consider cropping some of the top? Maybe I am wrong but I think it might do as good if it is cropped just above the first two lamp post. That is if you want it to be more of a street shot with people. Right now the people and the top of the building are competing to much to be subjects. If you are looking more at an architectural type shot then maybe clone the people and let the crop stand. Maybe post it both ways and let's see. The processing is superb.
You can also skew the bottom if the uneven bricks bother you, but it don't bother me.
