    Morning Flight

Yesterday's sunrise. I had to use the sun from a much darker exposure.

Wow, the sun just looks so surreal! Beutiful shot and lovely composition, I'm really digging that sun!

    Re: Morning Flight

Chunk, this looks interesting in the large sun rising over the quiet scene, but something is not feeling right here. I would expect to see some warm lighting somewhere, anywhere in the foreground or even at least on the edges of the silos, or coming off the ice in the field, but there is no lighting to bring to life the rest of the scene. And yet, not dark enough to create interesting silhouettes.
When you say you had to use the sun from a much darker exposure, does this mean this is a composite in some form, or this is just the darker image in a series of bracketed shots?

Thanks Jar_e, when I saw the sun rising throug thin clouds I had to speed up to find something to use as a setting for it and luckily came on this farm in time

Thanks for taking the time to think about this Gary. I guess you'd call it a composite. The photo containing the sun was shot about a minute and a half after the one with the rest of the scene. I guess I made a poor choice of frames to use for the scene. After reading your response I laid a darker one over the tiff of the one I posted and erased for the sun and the bird above the tree to show through. I used a soft brush to erase so the edge of the sun doesn't seem so sharp. I think the sharpening prior to posting was part of the reason it looked so surreal as well as the extreme telephoto compression. The sun was behind thin clouds and the light was pretty much flat in spite of having the sun in the frame. I've been learning some photoshop messing wiith this one. Thanks for the help.

Nice effort, but doesn't look quite right. Maybe I wouldn't say that if you hadn't said it was a composite. Nothing wrong with tht in my opinion, but it doesn't come togther optimally.

Sorry Chunk, but from the moment I set eyes on it I knew it was a composite. It's just too harsh of a ball hanging there. It looks like a giant yellow lamppost rising in the background. There's none of the brilliance in the sky that one might expect with such a bright sunrise.

The second attempt looks much more interesting, although it stills does not feel natural,, but I still feel this one works. The silhouettes are interesting, and I like the evidence of ice glistening in the FG.

Tuna, Kelly, and Gary, thanks for the feedback. I'm desperately reading Scott Kelby's Photoshop CS for Photographers to try and improve. I may leave this one on the back burner till I know a bit more. The book was recommended in a few threads in these forums and I think it's well worth picking up. He sure has a different approach to a software book.
