    First attempt at architecture.

Comments appreciated. This is the first time I have attempted this type of photo.

Pretty building. There are two things that jump out at me, though.

    1. the crane in the background.

    2. the distortion of the towers. They look like they're falling in on each other. Take a glance at this page http://www.photo.net/learn/architectural/exterior , specifically the section on Perspective Correction. There are software packages that will assist in making this correction, as well (you don't need a tilt-shift lens.)

A good first attempt at architecture.

ok, that was a bit to read. This was shot with a digital, with a fixed lens. Would it help if it were done with a 28-105mm lens?

    Hi,
The church seems very interesting. Your shot has a lot of potential and interesting elements - the shadows of the columns, the colour of the bricks, beautiful arches… Regarding the distortion, it is really a personal preference; you can use it to increase strength of the image. I find an article at http://photography.about.com/od/arch...re+photography , which you may find it helpful. Congratulations on your first architecture photo.

I have a slightly different angle that doesn't show the crane, but the same details. I like the distortion somewhat. It really makes the structure look huge. This structure is about 8 stories tall, and very dominant in this small city skyline. Technically, i guess the distortion is still an issue though. That is why i keep coming back though, because I do learn a great deal.

I don't want to say that all distortion is bad, it's merely something to consider. In this image, the distortion is distracting to me. It may be possible to shoot from a slightly different angle and make the distortion work for me, too. Just wanted to point out something to think about. Sorry for the lengthy article, the perspective section had some good examples in it, I thought, of making converging lines work as well as times that they don't work.

    Re: First attempt at architecture.

Indeed it did. I appreciate your comments, and research everything anyone ever suggests. Noone is so good that they cannot receive critique ( especially me). I am VERY new to photography. I checked the date on my first shot the other day, it was 5/21/05. That's right, not even 30 days, so I really need allthe help I can get. Thanks again!

Maybe someone could use a program to correct the distortion so I can see the result. The program I use doesn't have the ability.

A friend said to me the other day:
Photography is not art. Photographers take 1000's of photos and hope to get it right.
    I repleid:
How many times do you suppose the Mona Lisa was just "not right"?
