    Re: Any Idol fans?

Like I said in my first post in this thread, I haven't been watching the show, but I saw on the news tonight that the band Fuel, has offered Chris a job as their lead singer. You haven't heard the last of him. Of course, I haven't heard the first of him.

    Re: Any Idol fans?

This is a weird article. I am a fan of the band Fuel. The article states that Chris sang their song "Hemorrage" last week. He didn't. So that right there sets the article off as wrong, imo.

He could pull the job off though. His voice sounds like their old lead singer's. But according to the article, American Idol owns him for a while yet.

I do believe he was offered that spot privately between feb 29(when he sang it) and the article being written. I don't think AI owns his for too long because he was only top 4. Had he been top 2 they would own him for awhile I would think.

It will be Taylor. Of course last year I said from day one it would be Bo Bice, but for some reason America collectively went deaf the last week of voting.

And, I didn't know the band Fuel had any fans. Their first CD is in my collection because it was part of one of those buy 3 CDs get the rest of the world's published CD collection for free deals from BMG.

Okay, I'm gonna let that slide just because you're new. Welcome to the fray

I have been a fan of Fuel since their first album. I bought it on a whim and loved it. Then a few weeks later I started hearing it on the radio and they took off. They do a pretty good show too. I've seen em a couple of times on the east coast.

I agree it should have been the Bo Show last year, though I did not watch religiously like this year. Carrie Underwood just wasn't impressive to me. Bo did put out an album, by the way.

So who's getting the boot next?

No way is Taylor going next. Katherine CAN'T sing and Elliot sings with the nervous "vibrato" of a your uncle singing a eulogy at a funeral.

Kat and Elliott have both been hovering in the bottom 3 for several weeks. Taylor never has been, I don't think.

Kat can definitely sing, just not consistently.
Elliott's vibrato reminds me of The Wizard of Oz...

    Re: Any Idol fans?

Yeah I think Taylor is the favorite right now and I think he was the best tonight. Though I hated his middle song. Don't know what the others saw in it. He definitely brought the house down with his last song though

I finally figured out what bugs me about Kat - though you have to admit she has the best voice of the three - she is unconfident and she lacks soul. Put some soul in that girl with them high black boots and you got a winner!

Elliott did well. He bors us, but whatever. We thought he shoulda been gone months ago so oh well. Don't know what the judges - or America - see in him. Would Elliott have gotten this far of he didn't have the sympathy vote?

As we all know by now, the question is not who sings the best but who will America vote for? I just can't see buying an Elliott CD. But I can see Kat on MTV. And we would both be thrilled to see Taylor live

    Re: Any Idol fans?

I want a studio CD with all of the songs Taylor has sung during his tenure on American Idol. I cannot be the only one with this idea, and I don't know if it has been done before, but I would pay 50 bucks for it. I Tivoed tonight's episode (as I have all the others), and listened to all of Taylor's songs 3 times each. I really liked "You Are So Beautiful". Also "Try a Little Tenderness" suited him well. And I also replayed Kat's "Somewhere Over the Rainbow". After hearing that number, my Kat stance has changed at least 160 degrees. I disagree with walterick (what else is new) about her having the best voice in the competition, but I find that I really do like her for one reason: She doesn't (or doesn't have to) sound identical to the current crop of female pop stars we are being assaulted by. That said, she still won't win. Neither will Elliot. He is a nice guy I suppose (I don't hang with him), but as far as being an Idol, not so much. I don't think I would consider buying his CD either. Kat's I would, but it should be a collection of children's lullabies. No really, if she sings tunes suited to her, she does stand out. But her first and last songs sucked.

So next week, it will be Taylor and Kat (I wish Elliot would stay because he entertains me more live, but he won't). They will both perform well, and Taylor will win.

He had better. After Carrie stole the victory from Bo last year, I nearly hung myself. Taylor is better than Bo in nearly every aspect (even showmanship, and particularly likability). His albums would appeal to a huge range of people. From my motocross riding idiot cousin to my stuck in high-school father-in-law. Heck, my Dad even likes him and his office desk drawers are filled with Henry Mancini tapes.

I love this thread. I came late, but I had been working more overnight ER shifts at the beginning of the season and really didn't watch the early TIVOed episodes cuz my wife wouldn't shut up about the episode the day after so there was no real need. In this season, though, the show is really coming into it's own.

And I just love music. I used to sing a lot in show choirs in high school and college. I have what you might call an "ensemble voice" (read: not very good), so I can understand the skill it takes to succeed at AI type of comps. The talent for solo singing is truly a great gift and a rare one. It is wonderful to see the contestants rewarded for their hard work and dedication.

    Well, enough rambling.

    Greg

    Re: Any Idol fans?

OK OK OK...I broke down and watched last night...for the life of me...I can't figure out how Kat is still in there. I thought I had a bad memory, but she's horrible. With all the great talent that has been on this year...for it to come down to these 3 is really disappointing. And Simon...I think he had his head up his ( ! ) last night. Kats rendition of Somewhere Over The Rainbow sounded like the local cats catterwalling all night long. I wanted to pick up my shoe and throw it at the tv. As for Taylor, he was typical Taylor. Vocally, I thought Eliott was probably the best of the 3 last night, but that's not saying much since they all sucked. Hopefully, the Simon curse will reign true and his high praise of Katherine's "Somewhere" will get her sent home, finally.
BTW...is Randy tone deaf???? I've said it before, he always says things are "sharp" whether they're sharp, flat or right on!!!! The guy has no ear at all!!
    Oh well...we'll see tonight!!!! hehe...

    Re: Any Idol fans?

So we all have definitely distinct opinions about this crew

Which actually says a lot. It means there is no clear winner, and everyone's tastes are being met by a different singer.

Whenever Taylor starts singing, I wait anxiously for him to get into his "vibe." You know, when his voice really comes out usually toward the end of the song. He has magic, and not many performers do.

Greg, you can download most of the AI performances on the internet if you have p2p software. Paul taught me that. I downloaded Taylor's "Takin it to the Streets" the other day because it is my favorite of his so far, and my gf had not heard it yet. Michael McDonald is definitely a good fit for Taylor. I do feel like I am missing something with Taylor if I can't see him though.

    Re: Any Idol fans?

LOL! I watched parts of AI last night for the first time post-tryouts and at least heard all three sing one song.

I heard Taylor sing a Bruce Springsteen classic. Good grief, most Springsteen songs are written by Springsteen for Springsteen. Comparison is inevitable. Taylor was mediocre at best, no power, no emotion, no selling. It apperaed he had some sort of palsy. His attempts at young Springsteen-like dance moves were absolutely embarassing.

Well, maybe I'm one of the unwashed masses but Katherine, who most make fun of here, had one of the best versions of Over the Rainbow I've ever heard. Sorry Ken, but you are wrong, wrong, wrong! Just what is so bad about her voice? Unless last night was a fluke, she is the real thing.

Elliot sang a song I never heard of, was so-so, and not very exciting, good or bad. Its the type of stuff you put on the radio in the background without actually listening. How can that type of put-me-to-sleep voice be in the last three?

Based solely on what I heard last night, Katherine was the best by far. So there, I watched bits and pieces of AI post-tryouts. To be honest, the show was just not all that exciting.

Hee hee Michael we got you to watch one!

Of those, the only performance I feel was not indicative of their "true" character was Taylor. His Springstein cover didn't do anything for me either. And his dance moves are definitely his own

That much passion, and you thought you could only make one post in this thread?

Here's a video of Bo Bice covering Audioslave's "Doesn't Remind Me" I just ran across on Yahoo. Dude can definitely sing imo.
