Re: Gulls at frozen Captain's Pond.

Great images. I like the last few "in-flight" ones. Also looks like there are a few ducks in that first one.

Wasn't sure where Kidderminster was, so I looked it up - it would appear you are in the east-central part of England not that far from the Welsh border. From the pictures I saw on Google, it looks like a lovely place with lots of "old" buildings - I like old buildings. Climate is a little warmer, on average, than where I live, of course we just had one of our really, really cold spells, in the -30° s C, although today is only about -9° C with a little snow to add to the 15 cm we already have on the ground. Time to start looking for the snowy owls that spend their winters in this part of Canada.

    Cheers,

    WesternGuy

Thanks for your comments. We have had a few feet of snow further north. There are a few ducks in one of the images, but we have a lot of ducks around here and a lot of ponds, rivers and canals. We are expecting a decent fall of snow any time now; the thing is, we are not used to dealing with snow. When it snow in the UK, everything comes to a stop.

    Have a good day,

    Mike.

What do I say - good luck with the snow - I saw a few pictures of snow in England the other day and it said something to the effect that it was one of the earliest snowfalls in England in a long time. Where I live - Western Canada - we are definitely used to dealing with snow and often lots of it. It is not unusual for us to get 25-35 cm in one good snowfall, but these types of volumes usually occur in late fall or early spring, seldom in our winter - very small amounts in winter snowfalls. Out problem is that the City cannot deal with the large snowfalls, so things slowdown, not necessarily come to a halt, but the body shops (auto) do a good business.

    Cheers,

    WesternGuy

Snow here means we have a holiday, or two, or more; these are compensations for living in the UK.

Thanks Cara. Your shots are very good, too. However, not everything we have over here can be prettier than what you have over there - surely? I think that most of the images I have seen on this site, of critters you have over there, have been quite attractive. Perhaps it is a case of beauty being in the eye of the beholder. Obviously, I don't include turkeys and vultures on my attractiveness list, because they are really ugly birds.

No, he is a ugly bird. He looks like a turkey to me and turkey is on my ugly bird list.
