    The White House

    in White

I was a busy bee today. After taking self-portraits this morning I ended up going to DC to get the elusive "White House in White" shot I have wanted for a few years now. Tonight, I got it. Froze my fingers and fought the Secret Service, but I got it

I figure since I'm leaving the area (hopefully) soon, I better start shooting it!

    1) The front (sunset)
    2) The back (dusk - cold)
    3) The Washington monument
    4) Their neighbors

Thanks! I think I'm done taking pictures today.

Great shadows that create a foreground in shot #2. The last one reminds me a little of a Jodi Cobb (Nat'l Geographic) shot of NYC - nice!

Curious about what the Secret Service said to you. I've heard that you can't use a tripod without a permit in DC... True?

All very nice, but two and four are awesome. Well done.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

I agree, two are four rock!

hm, fighting with the secret service, sounds like fun! If I lived closer to Ottawa I'd try and get photos of 24 Sussex and the Parliment buildings...but that's a rather long drive.

Yes, all good but two and four are great!
Personally I would crop a little of the bottom out of the second one, but even like it is, it's a great photo ;)

    Re: The White House

    Thanks all!

#2 is the shot I went there for, froze my butt off for, and made SS nervous because I kept hanging around waiting for the "blues" to come out. I shot about 20 digital frames as the blues got darker into dusk.

The secret service always remind me I can't put a tripod up on the sidewalk. This is right around the white house. I used it down on Constitution right infront of the police and they said nothing.

It was when I kept hanging around waiting for the right light that I got a "trailer" LOL He hung around until I left.

Two things about the white house:
There are now snipers visible on the roof (I kept looking for a red dot on my chest the longer I stayed)
They have built a new "stage" and viewing tower right behind it so I couldn't get the straight-on shot from the rear that I wanted. All there were were angled side shots.

Thanks again. I guess my persistence payed off
