Hello,

my husband bought me a Canon rebel T3 a year ago. since I have added a couple more lenses and a Speedlite flash. I am trying to teach myself and enjoy all facettes of photography. There is so much more to it than I expected, but it is a lot of fun.

I tried to post a picture to be critiqued, but since I am new and it won't let me :-(

I hope I will be able to soon, since I am not surrounded by anybody who shares my passion and I really need some insight on some pictures I took.

Look at the other images and make a few comments. Having to really look at other images is one way to learn. In a short time, you will have the required number of posts and we can see your images. Looking forward to them. - Terry

Hello everyone. I just recently found this form and have found some great photos posted here. I have been enjoying this as a hobby since the late 60's. For the most part I like to shoot nature and landscape. I use a Canon AT-1 35mm, Nikon P510, Sony Cybershot and my Android phone (The last two are with me all the time) I look forward to continue to learn and get ideas from the members here.

I absolutely love the water droplet photo! My only complaint is that the background that is blurred out is sort of dull compared to the droplet and almost seems to such some energy out of it. Other wise great, Ive always had trouble with focusing in photos like this :P

Thanks for the warm welcome. I'm a person that love photography and pretty much any form. I love outdoors, sports, street, architecture, wildlife, etc.. If it requires me to be behind a camera, I'm in!

One of my more favorite things is documenting charity events. I'm part of a local photo club. We help with charity events by capturing photos that are used to help advertising of future events. Some events, like a charity hockey night, we setup photo booths so fans can have photos of themselves with special trophies or sometimes even some with hockey's great alumni members. Proceeds all go to support the charity the event is sponsoring.

I was going to display a few of my photos, however, as you may well know, the site won't let me until I have at least 10 postings. So, photos will have to wait.

Photography has always been a life long hobby and I enjoy shooting a wide variety of subjects. For now, I would like to use my old K-mount lenses again and looking for a camera body under $500. Currently debating between the K-01, K-X, and X-5.

Hey, welcome! Not too many Pentax people here but I shoot Pentax. I made the same jump from ME Super to digital and I went with a K-x. I have now added a K-5. I had the 135/2.5 and a 50/1.7 and used them both on modern bodies. They will seem longer on digital due to the smaller sensor. You have to multiply by 1.5 to find the 35mm equivalent field of view. You also have to enable a setting in the menus to allow for use of the aperture ring. Finally if they are M or K lenses you have to stop down meter using the green button. If they are A lenses you can control aperture from the camera and metering works more normally. It's nice to be able to use those old lenses but new ones with fast AF and all the new coatings sure are nice too.
The K-01 is an amazing bargain now and if you want to spend the least get that. It's image quality is up there with the SLRs. But you have to live without a viewfinder which is tough for someone used to one.
The K-x is a good reliable camera with very good image quality too. The viewfinder is reasonably nice and it's still pretty compact. It runs on AA batteries which can be a plus or minus. I got Eneloop rechargables for mine and they work great. The biggest drawback of the K-x is no illuminated focus points in the viewfinder.
My main camera now is a K-5. It's great but out of your budget new.

You might find a K-30 or even a K-5 close to $500 used if you look around. A PentaxForums.com has nenver a $550 K-5 posted right now with 20k actuations. Those are a big leap from the K-x in features. Both are sealed too.

Mattb - Thanks so much for the info, it will defiantly help me make the right choice. And I agree, if my budget wasn't an issue, I should just start with new equipment all together. But I might get more bang for my buck by trying to get one more use from my old glass. Also, I'm not a big fan of auto focus, that's another reason I want to try the old glass again. AF ruins a lot of my current shots, very frustrating, despite my current camera claiming to have a manual focus.
I work as a regional airline pilot, so I shoot a lot through windows, which plays havoc with my AF (Canon G-11). When I'm trying to get the old 'money shot' of a 747 at the critical moment of touch down or rotation, the only thing I need is an finality lock and rapid fire of several shots. Instead, my camera does the old pause and dance between various focal lengths, then finally gets one shot off. If the shot happens to be luckily with timing, then the focus usually completely off, or visa-versa. The G-11 is a good point and shoot, and I like how it travels well, not taking up much room in my flight bag, but falls short on my action shots.
I’m hoping that by using my old glass, I can rapid fire several shots at the critical moment, with the lens simply at infinity, without the camera trying second guessing me.
