some shots with my new toy

My sis surprised me with a a new SB800 still trying to adjust and figure it out...it really is truly a joy to work with...it opens up so many possibilities.

here's a few shots I did for a family last night (they were all sick at christmas) still got some shadows but not as scary as the ones with on board flash of the D70...
their pooch had quite a personality

anyways just thought I'd share....Hope everyone is doing well...will be posting some wedding images after the first of the year from my second wedding (scary)

Great shots Nat. Even your family grin and grabs look wonderful. If you have relatively low white cielings, you will be doing some really cool worlk with that thing. I've found that you can shoot small groups and individuals with the diffuser dome on and the head pointed straight at the cieling, provided the cielings aren't much higher than 8 feet. Anything taller and you will need to remove the diffuser. Don't forget that colored cielings and walls will kick back that color to the subject.

I hope that Santa Husband was good to you. We are just finishing an addition on the house so that was the main present, but I did manage to get a day at Nikon School for the 201 course from Santa wife and kids.

I'm going to scope out the wedding site tonight and do some test shots during the rehearsal

Santa husband and I agreed the minivan was our gift to each other and Santa mom bought Snata dad some clothes he desperately needed...so he was a little tiffed because we weren't supposed to buy extra gifts....I just didi what he does every year which is to lavish me with treats...this year I got to treat him...it felt good. Amazing that "santa" knows just what we want...have a great new year

Grads on the SB800! It is truely a nice piece of equipment. I sold my SB28 a couple of months ago and bought the SB800. It got a real workout over the holidays. Mostly bounced of the white ceiling with the little reflector up to add a little highlight to the eyes. Did a great job in most situations.

I'm still in the awe stage...it's yields such beautiful even light...I don't know if I have a greater love affair going on with the flash or the camera...in the end I end up cheating on someone he hehe hee

I was actually more excited about buying my SB800 than about buying the D70. The two make a powerful light management system with a lot of options to master:

- Direct flash/bounce/Direct+diffuser/Bounce+diffuser
- Normal measurement/Exposure lock
- Normal i-TTL/BBL i-TTL

I just discovered the thing about the two i-TTL modes after shooting all Christmas in BBL i-TTL mode, which was not always the best option.

Have fun. I'm just realising how sophisticated a tool the D70 is.

reading the manual gives me a little info compared to just playing around to find the end result I like...I have a long road ahead since I've never had a good flash...
