    Slide Scan Comparison

Back in February, I started a thread to show some photos from my first ever roll of slide film, Velvia 50. In that original thread, racingpinarello, a.k.a Loren, offered to scan one of my slides for me. I took him up on the offer, and the differences are quite noticable. So here they are for your own judgment. The first one, is the one I had done at work. It was scanned on an Epson 1640XL flatbed scanner. The second is the one that Loren did on his Nikon 8000 film scanner. I have made no post processing adjustments to either of these photos.

    2 more

Here are two more for you to compare. Both of these images have had the exact same post processing work done to them. The first is from the flatbed scanner, 2nd from Loren.

Is more noticeable in the second set (at least to me, on my monitor).

So the moral of the story is buy Nikon? ;-)

The Nikon Coolscans are incredible machines, and like most things in life, it pays to buy the best you can afford.

    Thanks for posting these Michael.

    Re: The Difference...

I am with Robert on this.
Flatbed scanners are good, but scanners like the Nikon Coolscan are really good!
    And that is the difference.
Thanks for this post, it is quite an interesting comparison.
