    Request for photos of Lighthouses

Hi guys... I haven't had the opportunity myself to photograph a lighthouse. Well, I have one, but it's so far away, it looks like a thimble. It's absolutely one of my favorite subjects and I would love to see any shots you have taken.

I do! So much so, that I've scheduled a camping/photography outing the weekend of September 17th. I've invited four other photographers to come along and spend a couple of days on South Core Banks with me, and we are going to photograph the Cape Lookout Lighthouse. I'm primarily after sunrise and sunset photo's, but I'm also planning on taking some night shots as well. If we get some nice weather (read big, fluffly clouds) I'll take some day shots as well.

Anyone in the PR family that is interested can come on down and join us.

    Anacapa Island Lighthouse

A bit off in the distance, but not too much so. This was my first lighthouse pic ever, and about as close as I was able to get to it.

Here's one from Lake Superior. I shot this by sticking the lens into the link space in a chainlink fence - too cheap to pay the tour price, besides I wouldn't have gotten this view if I had anyway!

    probably 35mm lens
probably Agfa 100 or Provia 100

Very nice photo Kris. Thanks for adding to the thread!

Edit: I meant to mention,... the sky was a perfect background the day you shot this! For a shot between the links of a fence, it's pretty darn good!

Hahahahaha! It very well could be Nat. That's so funny.

I took this shot standing near the Fishermans Memorial. Actually in front of the Statue of the Women with two children looking out to sea.

Someone had the same idea long ago /and lens that could get the close up. Check this out.

I'm a bit late in the game for this post, I think. But here's a lighthouse. This is the most photographed landmark in my town. It's called Battery Point lighthouse. It sits beside the long jetty that protects our harbor. It is still operational, as you can see in my pic- the light still helps local seafarers navigate to the harbor. You can tour the lighthouse only during low tide, since it sits on a small island that is connected to the shore by a narrow spit. This and a couple other pics from the same day are the only shots I have of it, since everyone has shot it. All us locals are sick to death of seeing pics of it in the paper, since they run a shot of it at least once a week.
Anyway, this is nothing compared to the Saint George Reef Lighthouse, which sits a few miles out to sea. It's pretty awesome. You can take a helocopter tour of it for like $150. Many local photogs have gotten some incredible shots from the air. This link should take you to a page I found with an aerial shot of it. It also has a shot of the "front" of the battery Point lighthouse.

    Enjoy!

    Ahhh, these are awesome!

Thank you JM. It's never too late to post as far as Im concerned. Even though you're sick of the seeing the lighthouse, I appreciate you posting it. Very nice shot. Thank you for all of that information. The aerial shot on that web site IS awesome isn't it?

Thanks to you as well Andy! I like the photos very much. The different moods of the view, on different mornings makes it all the more interesting.
