Request advice - converting negatives/print pics to digital format

I need to convert to jpegs / digital format a number of print pics and negatives. Is there an afforable service out there that memebers can suggest that can do this for you or are there any other suggestions.

I recently had the same decision to make. The labs I found that would do it charged about a dollar per image, so I decided to go with a mid range (price-wise) scanner. So far I'm not sorry I bought it.
