Okay, I did my own business self portrait lol

To my surprise, it actually came out pretty good!

Here is the small version: http://bizfx.com/janesm.jpg and if you want to see the larger one, it's at http://bizfx.com/jane.jpg - now, for all you people who photograph models, i'll give you a make up tip. I was a makeup artist for several years and also modeled. the make up I used in that picture was from Bare Essentuals - it is perfect for photography because it doesn't make you shiny, you just have a nice glow, not too matte. It doesn't clog into pores so you don't see those little blotches and it covers blemishes flawlessly.

I took this photo with my collapsible backdrop about 2 feet behind me with low lighting, used the timer on my rebel and just the flash. That's it! (I did gaussian blur the background due to wrinkles in the backdrop though!)

Re: Okay, I did my own business self portrait lol

Why can't Janie post a million photos of herself here? Why only Rick and Speed? Why the torture?!?!

Seriously, you're drop dead... you know what.

What are you going to use the photo for? I'm familiar with your business but was curious to the exact usage. Business cards perhaps?

While the photo does look nice, I think there's a lot of room for improvement when you get around to trying it again. The flat lighting helps to keep you young looking and gives flattering skin but I for one wouldn't mind seeing a portrait of similar pose and style but perhaps done in window light or outdoor shading with similar background.

Also, if you'd like some help in masking out the background I'd be happy to offer my assistance to you. If it's just for a small business card then it probably woudln't matter too much but for a 5x7 or 8x10 a little extra work can help a lot.....maybe I'm just being picky. No matter what I just said, it's a very flattering photo of you and you sohuld be proud

    Thanks for sharing.

Hot hair! very different than your avatar....very flattering.
I like the colors..the light seems a smidgen harsh...was this a self timed portrait or arms length sort of thing. Regardless of what you end up with Ithink the face a lone will do it justice
    ;) Good start

Remarkable for a one light (flash at that) self timer photograph. I took a pro to set the timer and get around in front of the camera and still look so composed and beautiful. Very nice job.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

It's really difficult to shoot yourself using the timer! lol you need to have something to aim at so I used one of my easels, ran over hit the button, waited for the beep and made faces for a bit then smiled and it shot me! BANG! I needed to update my picture on realtor.com which is also http://janehaas.com so it seems to work for that. Thanks natabeach regarding the hair color - did it yesterday - it's Revlon's Auburn Angel with blond highlights using a cap. ;) You too can have the look! I've taken to cutting my own hair until it grows out enough since most hairdressers cut wayyyy too much off!

Trevor, just for that I'm going to post a new self portrait today

Janie, you're a very beautiful professional young lady! I had no idea you had green eyes.

Let it stand as a compliment to your looks that you can withstand direct flash and still come out beautiful. I can't imagine if Charles Hess or a professinal had you in their hands...

But I digress. I agree that it's a good first shot. I also there's a lot of room for improvemts here but it's certainly a great self portrait!

    What the...?

Geez, no respect. I'm with Rick, it's time to post some more self protraits!

    Janie,

Great photo! I'm with Trevor...post a million of them.

And the word he was struggling with is "Gorgeous"! Which you are.

    Beautiful - absolutely - especially for self-timing, one-flash shooting...

Oh - I took the liberty of "glamming" it up a bit - hope you don't mind.

    Hi Janie,

I agree with everyone that this is a great picture to work with for your business-related work. I hope you don't mind but I played with it a bit in photoshop real quick just to see what could be done with it as compared to the original.

Janie - if you can next time - hold a bounce card (read: foam core or poster board) in your hands just below the shot line. Angle it so that the front edge is down toward the camera about 15degrees - this will give you a gorgeous catch light in those gorgeous eyes of yours.

Thanks for the info on the make-up.
I've always wondered how Bare Esentuals (sp??) works with photography. (and other mineral make-up for that matter)

I think you did a great job. I've never tried a timed self-portrait. Those closest I got was when I used my honey as a prop so it was easy to focus on something.
