Cool NYC/NJ Blizzard - Ready everyone?

I just heard they upgraded the storm to a blizzard - from 18-24 inches of snow. One NY forecaster said it may compete with the biggest blizzard ever to hit NY.

Personally, I'm getting my Rebel 300D and 17-40 lens ready. I'm also going to try out my newly purchased all-around-carry-with-me-camera - Panasonic FZ3 with that big Leica zoom lens & IS - all for $300.

    I love fresh snow. I can't wait!

Hey Megan......are you there? I hope you're getting your Holgas, etc. ready!

Maybe we can have a Blizzard of 2005 Thread.

Getting ready here in IL too! We're supposed to have up to 12" by Saturday afternoon. It's been coming down hard for the last two hours! And with the winds predicted for tomorrow, there will be a lot of drifting. Good for photography, but close to home.

Normally I'd be pretty excited, but I have a gig with my band tonight... I predict a small crowd but I might be surprised... At least I'm not one of the snow sculptors trying to finish one of their 8' tall projects by tomorrow morning. That's got to be like trying to heard cats!

I have my polarizing filter ready for my rebel! Don't know if i'll get out much - i've been sick for the past 3 weeks, the last week or so has been the worst. Flu + stomach virus - bad. Gatorade - Gooooooodddd. So if you guys get sick with the flu and a stomach virus at the same time, stock up on gatorade! I'm going stir crazy and have no more fever, so i'm sure i'll be an idiot and go sleigh riding and take pics! lol

Stay warm everyone. We have had nothing but bad weather since christmas. I still have about 18" of snow/ice left in my front yard from christmas. Originally I had 3+ feet. Now we have an inversion going on and our temps go from the low teens to maybe mid 30's at most. Tahoe is 10+ degrees warmer with clear skies..and great skiing. The positive side is we have had freezing fog (pogonip) for the past week and expected for the next 5 days. Makes for great colorless pictures, so I am going to venture out in it while I have the chance. Stay warm and drive careful if you go out.

Well no blizzard here, just snow. But I have my SRT-102 ready...if I have time to go out and take photos...have to fold and stuff 600 posters (2 per envelope) for the up comming PYPS event(s). Where i get most of my practice at taking shots quickly.

So far the forecast here is 20 to 30 inches with 4 to 5 foot drifts. I'll be lucky if I can get out the door!!

I think we got about 6 inches last night...still snowing though

My husband was outside before I even got out of bed so he could shovel. Did I mention we enjoy shoveling.

The girls are down at my inlaws for the weekend, which is closer to Steve (another view) so I am hoping they get a lot down there too.

Hurray for snow! As long as I can get out and about I love it.

I'm leave for there on Sunday. =) it was -8F here this AM. I was downtown last night on the common (first time since I moved here) and is was *%#^ cold. Too bad my trip to FL is work only and I'll be back wednesday night.

I also had to cancel my plans to go to Mt. Snow today. The thought of getting cought out in that storm made the drive home seem no quite worth it.

    Think warm.

We got about 8"-9" here last night and it's still coming down, but not as hard as it was. I shoveld for 2 1/2 hours this morning and still have my own sidewalk to do yet. Then I'm going for a ride to with the DRebel.

Re: NYC/NJ Blizzard - Ready everyone?

I just got home from a friend's house - she lives about 30 minutes from here (northern NJ) and it took me over 2 hours on the NJ parkway to get back. I thought I left early enough. CBS said there were over 2 dozen accidents just on the NJ parkway.

So, I'm home for the duration! Hopefully it will all be over tomorrow with some glorious pics still left to be had.. When the actual downfall lets up, I hope to do some shooting. I still have Bronchitis, so we'll see how it goes.

I just got home.... that snow was a blast to drive through in a tiny ford escort ;)

judging by the areas not drifted I would say we got 8-10 by saturday at 9:30 PM and 6+ since then(still falling) . NO kidding I have 14+inches of snow here w/ 24-30+ inch drifts. The roads have an average of 6 inches of snow on them W/ 12+ drifts for the last mile before my road. WIPERS ON .... PLOW WITH THE HOOD ;)

    Talking Where's the camera Paul!

I hope you post some pics! I'm going out (Paterson) this afternoon with my Rebel and new carry-around small 2nd camera Panasonic FZ3. Except I don't have a card reader for the Panasonic. Forgot that small item!

    I'm glad you're safe!

Liz..... stay warm , because we need you to be healthy again

HMMM.. I took a few image while driving with MY POCKET CAMERA (fuji 340) and I too have no card reader. I will try to remember how I dumped it last time from the camera and see if any are post worthy . Quite boring I would think , as they are just white lanes(road) through the snow

    After I Parked

They plowed my parking lot around 9pm last night and again at 1AM so Michelle said. The second wave started around midnight, but got VERY heavy some time after 3am. I needed to pull in and out of the parking spot 3 times in order to complately plow my way in ;)

Image name sums it up "little car that could"

Mind you we own a 2003 Chevy Silverado 2500 extra cab 4x4 and a Ford ranger 4x4, but I took the 95 escort with 140k on it ;) It is unstoppable! I hit a deer at 40 MPH with it a few months ago.... got a new headlight and blinker, left the small dent in the lip of the hood and pulled the fender dent

BTW I just desaturated these images, resized and "SHARPEN" in PS

Nice shots everyone. As I suspected, I couldn't get out of my door this morning, so forgive the poor quality. This is shot through a window. My car is somewhere in that pile of snow to the right of my husbands plow truck.

    Hi there Lara!

I saw something sticking out, so I guess your car is still there

They just finished plowing our driveway. Actually it doesn't look like we had more than about 10 inches. I'm going out for a walk this afternoon with my camera. Hopefully I'll have some pics to post.

    Have a great weekend everyone.

    Hiya Liz...

I am not sure what the Boston area total snowfall is. I think somewhere around 24". Some drifts however are 5'. The storm is just about over and hubby is now out plowing the yard. Eventually my car will get unburied. Hubby's Explorer is safely put away in our garage. Sure!!! My poor car. LOL

    GROAN -

My Holgas are home, I'm at my sick boyfriend's place! I still have rolls of last year's snow that I haven't developed.... I might actually just sit this one out and nurse this sinus infection!
