On my way home from work this evening ....

It would have been nice to have the trees in focus too but with out a tripod I couldn't hand hold at f22

Looks lovely. I have only seen the purple snow phenom a few times. Why f22 btw?

I was standing on the edge of the bluff over looking the inlet. If I stopped it down to f22 the DOF would have allowed the vulcano, person, sea ice, and the trees to all be in focus. I think LOL

well, depending on the focal length, you don't really need to go to such extremes if that's what you were going for. A wide angle lens has a much wider depth of field at all apertures v. a telephoto, so most of the time if you're focusing to infinity or just short of that, you don't have to stop down that far to get everything in focus. If you'd focused on on the people at say f11 with a wide angle, you'd more than likely get the mts in focus, too. DOF preview is a great way to check this in future.

in any case, the blurred fg elements don't worry me at all, they keep me focused on what you want me to look at. and it's gorgeous.
