    Beautiful shot. Has almost a painted quality to it.

    That's actually a butterfly... a buckeye I believe.

    Easiest way to tell is the antennas. A butterfly's end in a club, a moth's either are feathered or smooth and tapers.

    even easier, butterflies wings just shut over their body sticking up, while moths fold back becoming more compact.

    And skippers do both, just to confuse you!
    Hindwings are held at 45 degrees and forewings flat.
    Yet they have butterfly clubbed antennae.

    Something really weird is happening in that photo, the detail is seriously messed up.
    I guess it's a filter that's been applied?
