The Incredible Twisting Barn

This barn is on Hwy 43 between Greenville and Vanceboro. It's been leaning for years now, but in the last year it has been twisting as well. I keep expecting to see it on the ground any day now.

Last Friday the wife and I went to Greenville (it was our seventh anniversary). There was snow on the barn that morning, but we didn't stop on the way up. On the way back I stopped and took a couple of shots of it. Of course, the snow had melted by then.

I'm going to make a point of getting shots of this barn every time I go up that way. It'll be interesting to see how far it goes before it comes down.

Well, happy anniversary! It would make an interesting subject to shoot every once in awhile (not that you probably have that long to work with it). Maybe each shot from the same spot with the same focal length; maybe not...

I shot this standing beside a highway sign, so shooting from the same spot should not be a problem. This thing has been leaning for about 10 years now. I am surprised that it is still standing. For the last year or so, it has been twisting, so I really expect it to go any day. I'll keep you posted.

I'd love to get closer to it, but the property is posted. So I'm limited to shooting from the road. Got to love your zoom lens in a situation like this.

Italy has it's leaning tower, you have leaning barn!

I wonder what's keeping it up for so long?? There's a couple abandoned buildings around my area, most are fenced off. I may get closer to one, an abandoned house on 6th line where it goes over the 407, one day when the snow melts...do a little tresspassing.

I think you should take a shot every 6 months and then animate them

Really neat subject you have hear. We had a house in our area that went thru the same thing, minus the twisting. Eventually it went down. I think with some help from the local youth. The pile is still sitting next to the highway tho...
