I upgraded to the Elan 7N

I traded in the Rebel Ti that I have shot for about a year, decided it was time to get a more "professional" camera. I elected to save the $50 and get the non-eye control version (probably a mistake).

My first impression (got it late on Saturday) is wow! The AF seems to be faster than the Ti, no scientific evidence, but it does feel faster. The motor is very quiet, even when it is on the high speed rewind. Is that harder on the camera? I love the feel, the little bit of extra weight feels really nice in my hand. I also like the more sophisticated controls, and I suspect that I will like being able to use the more sophisticated features of my 420 EX as well. The new E-TTL II metering is interesting. I haven't seen much (if any) difference at all yet, but I have only shot two rolls so far, and only gotten one back as of yet, so to be continued.

It has been a LONG time since visiting the forum, hopefully time allows me to continue to visit more.

    Talk to you all later,

    Chris

Congrats, Chris...that Elan 7N is a fine camera. I'm sure the non-eye control won't affect your shooting any, and the high-speed rewind doesn't hurt the camera, just makes a bit more noise and possibly uses more battery juice. Let's see some images when you get the chance.

    Talking Congratulations Chris!

    Chris,
You made a great choice. I had this camera - except it was the 7E - before I bought the Rebel 300D - I had to sell it to purchase the digital or I would have kept it. I kept my old Rebel 2K to use for b&w mostly because of the resale value on the Elan.

I never used the "e" part. I love the Elan7 - it is exactly what you said, quiet - fast - great features.........waaaayyyy above the Rebels. I too was surprised at the quality of the build, the silence, and all the options/features. I loved it - and you will too. It is a lot of fun using, and so much more that "pro" feeling than the Rebel.

I'm looking forward to seeing your pics. Enjoy.

    Pic from first roll

Here's the cream of the crop from the first roll... The little monster is four months old now, and just discovering that he has feet. Who knew that babies could have smelly feet?

Smile Good to have you back!

and posting your wonderful baby pics. He is sooooooo sweet! No wonder you like to photograph him.

You will love using that camera. When I went from the Rebel 2000 to the Elan7 I felt I had moved to the level of a "pro." It is a great feeling camera....it's much faster and quieter than the Rebel 2K. And the results are so good!
