Yes.... WTF is wrong with people? It's a band DUDE..A BAND!!!! Too bad the cop shot him.... would have been great to see 200 fans of MUSIC beat him to death! BTW.. Darrell's brother Vinnie Paul Abbott(the drummer) was also ALLEGEDLY shot. Darrell was a TOP guitarist by anyones standards. What a sad day for metal fans and guitarists alike!

Wow. I am tempted to think it's a shame we'll never know the killer's reasons, however stupid, but then again, I guess that's a small price to pay for the guy not making it out of the club or killing even more people.

    Re: a GREAT is nolonger

Pissed at PANTERA'S break up .. DAHHHH Phil Anselmo was the reason, not the Abbott boys from what I read. Obviously the guy(Nathan Gale) was a waste of carbon , so let him fertilize the earth.

The dude was 25... that means he was 9 or 10 when the first Pantera album came out..... MENTALLY DISTURBED LOSER!

Horrible, simply horrible. Diamond....later Dimebag Darrell was the most influential guitarist for me in my lifetime. I spent all of high school with my band learning all of his riffs that I could and trying to produce my own similar sound to his.

This is awful, geez. I never thought I'd mourn a musicians death the way I am with Dimebag Darrell.

Yep. Sucks, don't it? I was living in NYC when Lennon was shot, and as a matter of fact, was only about six blocks from The Dakota when it happened. I could hear the shots, but had no clue what was going on until I saw the news later that day.

    Whoa.

I never could have imagined somebody would do something like this, period, but to Dime? What gives?

He was an incredible musician and a funny guy from the Pantera home videos

So you think it was about Phil?

    This is awful.

    Re: a GREAT is nolonger

Well, Phil did within the last few weeks say Darrell needed his A$$ kicked, though that had nothing to do with it.

The shooter was discharged early from the marines(why is not reported) , CLAIMED he wrote pantera song lyrics(wrong) and said" you broke up pantera" before grabbing Darrell with one hand and shooting him in the head 4-6 times. Phil actually broke the band up with his HERION addiction, DOWN and SUPERJOINT RITUAL ventures and his view on race relations.

I spent a few hours with all of the pantera crew on 2 occations... Darrell was a very down to earth common guy when not on stage. Phil was cool too.

As of yet, I have found NO reply to this by Phil, but I KNOW he is sad reguardless of the words exchanged between the Abbott boys and Phil. NOBODY would wish this apon anyone!

It was committed by a mental challenged POS who jumped a fence around the club , ran in the back door onto the stage and killed a LEDGEND!

    Hey

I saw an "official" news story on.. okay don't laugh - MTV where they read statements from one of the Slipknot guys and so on - didn't mention Phil other than reviewing the history of Pantera and saying Phil had broken them up. But you know he is grieving.

You're right - an f'ed up POS did this, not Phil, not drugs, not Dimebag. That's the way it goes... some kid is raised with too many shoot-em-up video games coupled with a mean dad and genes that predispose to rage... why haven't we spent more money on helping these kids? Ah, anyway, there I go again.

RIP Dimebag! Haunt Phil's house for a few dyas before rising up to heaven! ;)

    Re: a GREAT is nolonger

Hey you guys, maybe a little backing off of the killer. He's dead too, so everyone paid the ultimate price. Think about all the loved ones involved, not just the musician's. The killer's family just lost a son as well, and I'm sure they would like keep his memory as a dear loved one, just as DD's family would like to keep his. No one won here-- everyone lost. And since we don't know why this happened yet, let's not jump to irrational conclusions about motive. Yes, what he did was abhorrent. Yes, he might have gotten the death penalty if he'd lived, but in the meantime, let's think about all who have been hurt by this. I know DD's guitar- he was one of the greats. It is a tragedy. But also I did not know him personally, and his loss is only a cultural one for me, as it is for those who were not his friends or family.
I just don't like to see so much outpouring of hatred over this- hatred is probably what drove this man to commit such an act; we should all refrain from propagating hatred and focus on propagating understanding while maintaining our moral stance against murder in all forms.
And hey, they were a heavy metal band. Think about the seeds of violence they have sown with their music...
Or maybe I've been listening to the Taoists at work too much....

    Re: a GREAT is nolonger

I haven't stated anything but the obvious that can be found through google. Do you want my real thoughts on that guy? MOTIVE has already been revealed too.Shhhh don't tell but he was a mentally ill guy IN LOVE WITH PANTERA. Sure I feel bad for his family's loss, but the dude was "released early" from the military, was medicated for his MENTAL ILLNESS, claimed ownership of pantera songs, claimed "they stole my identity AND SAID" YOU BROKE UP PANTERA" before blowing Darell's head off.

So since you think I am attacking his character I will finish with this....

FUQ that crazy lowlife, loner, mentally ill waste of carbon. I will soon find his burial site and urinate/ defacate on it.

To his mother and one friend.... Sorry for your loss, may god carry you through your hard days to come.

    Re: a GREAT is nolonger

    Hello

I'm not sure if your statements about hate are directly to me or not but I am certainly not suggesting that anyone should hate anyone in this. I'm an optimist, so to me this is another opportunity for society to look upon itself an examine what's going on underneath the surface. It's not possible to change what happened, but it is possible to look at the same patterns ocurring over and over again in youth and guns. Violence and guns. Mental instability and guns. Fear and guns. Etc. I'm not pointing fingers, just wishing that we'd finally get it. This whole tragedy to me is another example of what's going on beneath the skin of our rich, free society, in which everybody's so busy making money that they forget to love their kids. Or so obsessed with owning the newest plasma screen that they end up giving up quality time with their kids doing things like camping and skipping stones - which are free - in favor of watching tv on a screen that's too big to fit into their modest home.

I don't want to further go off on a rant here, but this is something I feel saddened about every time it happens. I hate to pass up on an opportunity to point out to people that gun violence and mental imbalance are a pattern, if we don't like it then let's do something about it!

Oh, and my words may be influenced by the movie Runaway Jury I watched last night (about gun vcontrol and violence... )

Outdoorsmen, these commenst are not directed at you, in case you felt as such. I'm just responding to your message and directing my thoughts to the general publc. Thanks.
