Hi folks!
It's been a while since I posted. Seems I'm still in limbo as to where I'll be permanently moving. Hopefully that will change soon.
These are just a few snaps from my vacation last week. The wife and I took a week retreat to an old mining town up in the Sierra Nevada mountains, where I kind of grew up as a kid. I wasn't really in much of a photogenic mood as I all just wanted to do was relax and do a little prospecting. But I did manage to find the time to snap the camera a few times out of habit.
#1 A sight that I've never seen before--a sun ring. I think this was caused by the exhaust of the many planes flying over the town of Grass Valley during an airshow.
#2 St. Louis bridge, built approximately around 1905. A more modern bridge was built right next to it. The creek it crosses over is Slate Creek, a real good gold producing creek. Too bad there were mining claims right here!
#3 A pretty yellow butterfly. Unsure of the species but it is quite common up here in the California Sierras.
#4 We walked about a mile and a half to get to this spot on the creek. I was looking for evidence of an old mine that had been established in the late 1800s. I found lots of tailings but no mine itself. Probably buried somewhere in the woods.
