A few questions from a newbie

Hey
I would like to know what camera I can buy that is quite cheap but is a great camera for newbies at photography?
I also wanted to ask for advice about how I can get into photography, as I am going on holiday I thought that was a good advantage for me to get into photography and take pictures.
Another aspect that I am interested in was sports photography, to be specific photography in cricket. What ways are there to get into this and learn about this?

First off - welcome - secondly - my suggestion is to pick a digital camera that allows you to control manual settings. You don't have to get an DSLR to do this - higher-end sony, olympus, and nikon will all allow you to learn the mechanics of photography w/o having to buy lenses.
