The theme this year was country. "Sequins and Spurs" to be exact. The one of the cowboys was from the dad's dance they do every year. It is the so hysterical, and the dads really get into it.

I enjoy all of these shots! They are beautiful yet mysterious - the cowboy's face is dark so you can't see it which makes you look a little harder - love the second shot too - excellent composition!

What type and speed film did you use?

I really enjoy shooting the dance stuff, and I'm debating putting a book together for the studio. I've found some places that are reasonably priced.

Janie, I shoot digital these days. Iso 800, white balance is set to the lightbulb. And this time I had a tripod, so I didn't have to balance on the railing over the doors, had a much higher sucess rate.

you know, i'm shooting mostly digital these days myself and yesterday remembered why - I had one roll of film developed for $14.99! Hell, for the amount of shots I take every week, i'd be out a few hundred dollars a week! It's gotten soooo expensive!

Hi Adina,

These are great shots! The lighting is beautiful. Given that you shot at 800 with tripod does this mean no flash? I assumed you hadn't given it was a performance, but the images are so strong and sharp I wondered - what is your secret?

and given that I was in the balcony, wouldn't have helped any.

Usually the stage lighting is pretty bright, so I'm getting about 1/90-1/250 at f/4. That's enough to get a sharp image most of the time. Mostly just practice till I got it right, once you get a feel for what you're going to get, it get's a bit easier.
