Re: Did you get photo gear for Christmas?

    NO.
My younger brother is into golf and he got all kinds of golf gear. My older brother is a surfer and he got surfing stuff. My mom is into cats and so I got her a stained glass piece with kitty motif. My aunt and uncle are into keeping a spotless house (no shoes please!) so I got them some nice decorative doormats for their vacation home here. My youngest brother is into XBox and so he got a bunch of games for it.
I'm WAY more into photography than anyone else is into their interests and NO ONE GOT ME ANYTHING PHOTOGRAPHY RELATED.
All I really wanted was the RC-1 for my 7N. It's only $25 at B&H. I guess I'll just have to get myself a belated present... I wonder if everyone was trying to tell me something...

Re: Did you get photo gear for Christmas?

I always get "you are sooo hard to shop for." I have a four page Amazon wishlist, not to mention my B&H wishlist, though the latter is really just a list of chemicals and toys I need to order for the darkroom (for my own referance).

    Photo related:
    Night Photography, Andrew Sanderson
    Bogen Monopod
    Pecker (that's photo related, right?)

I gave someone a red Zorki 5 and might be picking up one for myself because I really didn't want to give it up. It would be great for street photography - something I really want to get into.

My birthday is in a couple of weeks and I'll hopefully be reporting on this:

Don't worry outdoorsman, the closest thing I got to something photo related was a a small print of a Ninja sportbike (made up of tiny photos of naked girls LOL It's the best!) and some socks that I'm sure I'll be wearing when taking a photo someplace

I don't mind, I'm happy to even get a card from a friend... and my boss gave me a nice bonus which paid for the gifts I bought for people, and an eBay upgrade to a 6.3MP D60 and grad ND filter from B&H...

    Merry X-mas to meeeeee...

Re: Did you get photo gear for Christmas?

Hey, my mother bought me diamond earrings and what she thought was free companion airfare from sears - that turned out to be bogus because you had to purchase the originating ticket through some company sears did the promotion with and they were charging $500 for one ticket to Washington state - it's only $250! So that's not free! I asked her why she didn't get me the lighting equipment that I asked for instead and she said she didn't want to get me something work related. Hello?! It's not just work, but hobby as well! Funniest thing is - I wear earrings about once a year! lol Thank god my man got me filters - at least he knows what I like!

    Do belated gifts count?

My accounting department (hubby) approved me for photo purchases and since we didn't get gifts for each other...he let me get a back up 1 gig Cf card, a back up battery for the D70 and rechargeables for the flash.... good thing we decided not to get gifts for each other cuz it could have been really expensive.

    Nope!

I got an mp3 player from the hubby, and a crock pot, which is something I've been wanting. My parents got us a hammock, his parents got us a new toilet and sink to replace the gross ones that were in the basement bathroom (and I use the term loosely) when we moved in.

New jammies, lone ranger cookie jar, you know, the usual.

Nobody buys me photo stuff anymore, because I am very particular about what I'd want. And I hate putting a list together. I'd rather be suprised.

I think we're alike, Adina. I don't get stuff for the same reason, but my wife bought me an iPod, which is just wonderful.

    Re: Welcome!

Mrs Wombat said "go on and buy it then" because she bought tickets for F1 Testing in Spain.
I take the photographs and she gets them signed, so it's not totally selfless

    So it's a 20D, BG, spare batteries, 10-22, 28-70 L, 70-200 L, 2x extender II, Speedlite 580.
Plus a Crumpler "Brian's Hot Tub" (!) and a Phototainer.

    Happy face

Photos to come soon, of course.

WOW! Mrs. Wombat and Santa treated you very well. Good reason for the Happy Face!

Now, we'll all be looking for the photos! Lots of nice gear here.

Man-O-Man, that is a serious Christmas package. You are gonna love those two "L" lenses. Post some pics and give us a review of that 580EX when you get a chance too. I've been thinking about getting one in hopes it will solve the flash inconsistencies I've experienced with the 550EX on my D60, 10D's, and 1DmkII.
Congratulations on the new weapons of imageconstruction.

My dad found his old Canon A1, so I get to use that for a bit. He dug up all his old lense cleaning and camera repair stuff gave that to me, found his old slide projector. A whole bunch of hand me downs from the 70s-80s . That, and some money to go towards a new camera of my own. Quite happy.

Nothing wrong with that camera. I still have one. I had three once upon a time (two got stolen-one of which had my prize 50mm f1.4 on it, and a high speed power winder (5 fps)).

It wouldn't be Christmas with out some kind of photo gear. This year I got a new Bogen Monopod that I have been wanting since getting the Nikon 80-200 f2.8. It will make a big difference when baseball season rolles around again. And Santa in his all knowning wisdom left a Nikon ML-L3 remote in my stocking. That is going to make those flower macros even sharper this summer. And of course the kids came through with some very nice photo books.

    Talking Can anyone say 7D?

Hi guys/gals, I'm a newbie here, but not new to photography - otherwise I'd never be able to figure this thing out! Seriously though, since digital started coming out I'd lost my creative desire since I wanted to get results immediately (that's my generation for ya) and the digital cameras I'd been playing around with didn't do it for me. No digital SLRs in the Minolta family to go with all my Minolta stuff, and I didn't see me starting over with another complete system, so I waited... and now!

My dad & fiance went in together and got me the Maxxum 7D I've been drooling over ever since I heard they were coming out with it. Add to that a 17-35 Maxxum zoom, two 1-gig Lexar cards, two extra NP-400 batteries, a new camera case to hold that & the "now old" 35mm bodies, new straps, a couple filters for the new lens, and did I have a FABULOUS CHRISTMAS or what?!?!

I can't wait to start posting the shots I'm taking with it. Hope you guys leave my neck (take the head though). ;-)

Nice being here, glad to have found this forum.

    Welcome MadCow :-)

Welcom to PR. I think you'll find this a very friendly and safe environment for newbies and seasoned pros alike. There are other sites for the hardened and brutal, but I like this site the best. Congrats on the new gear. Definitely post some pics here, and don't forget to post a review in the review section for this camera. I'm sure all the Minolta-Konica fans are dying to see some shots from the new dslr from Minolta.
    Again welcome aboard ;)

Re: Did you get photo gear for Christmas?

    Ha Ha!

Still got my Canon 50mm F1.4 lens and I still use it on my Canon AE1 which was bought in 1980 (september) What a great lens and camera - both indestructable! I still use the 50mm more than the other lenses.

Santa has now added a Canon Powershot Pro 1 to the collection with a lowpro bag for the Fuji Finepix 4700 and the Canon - No room for the AE1 and all the lenses. Is he trying to tell me something??

Now how do I get the boss to buy me a Vebon Luxi F tripod for my birthday in February?

    Aye! From #7...

I got a couple of things I already replied about, but the best gift I got was from my wife. She made a contribution to IAMRA for me, the Illinois Alaskan Malamute Rescue Assocation. This has been a gift for the last few years, and they need it more than I do. They save Mals from shelters and abusive situations, and can use all the help they can get!
