Did you get photo gear for Christmas?

I travel a lot for work and Santa bought me a Tenba D15C camera bag capable of hauling both my gear and my computer. Now I don't have to worry about jamming my DSLR and a couple of lenses into my briefcase...

What photo gear did you get?

Just the SB800 and a reflector (it's coming ---I'm not supposed to know about it) ;)

Bags like that are really handy - they don't look like camera bags, and instead of a laptop you can carry a small portfolio and/or prints. Works well for PhotographyReview gatherings!

I got a hard drive which everyone here is probably tired of hearing about (myself included ). Also got a B&H gift card - those things are dangerous!

    I didn't get any photo gear.........yet!

Each year I look forward to February/March when I can spend my tax return for photo gear. ;)

It's a great way to start the new year!

I got my Digital Rebel with a Sigma 28-90, Sigma 70-300 f4-5.6, including bag, and also a 1 gig Lexar CF card. Now if I can ever get off duty (pulling a little OT at the firehouse to help pay for Santa's gift ) I will put it through it's paces. Still very exciting. Look out critique board, here I come......

my main squeeze bought me a bunch of Hoya filters: Cir-polarizing, Clear ND06, multivision, star six, diffuser, skylight 1b, +1 and +2, CS (not sure what that one is for yet), and another UV because mine cracked. Oh, also a Canon Speedlite 300EZ but it doesn't work on my digital rebel!

I bought myself a Christmas present, a 85mm-205mm vivtar lens for my minolta. And found out about a place in Toronto that sells used equipment...so I'm going to check it out for a 28mm wide angle lens

    Hey Janie

I think your CS means "Cross Screen." If it's a Quantaray, it's definitely cross screen (I used to sell them) That's a star filter. It should say 4x or 6x on it, which is the number of tines your stars will have when you shoot a pin light source like candles or headlights with it.

Hmm, it only says HOY 52MM CS Japan - I did realize there is a square grid on the lens.
I'm so mad that the Z300E isn't compatible with the digital rebel! Anyone know of a way to make it work?

    Sort of

For a digital photographer, I guess I did get photographic equipment of sorts for Christmas
My wife gave me a new laptop for Christmas/birthday, a Panasonic CF-W2 ToughBook with 1.1 GHz Centrino, and 768 Mb of memory, and a DVD rom/CDR burner. I was surprised how much faster and efficient it was compared to my old P4 2.8 GHz Compaq with 1 Gb of RAM. It's really small too, and weighs 2.6 lbs with battery. And the battery life is incredible. I went almost 8 hours running a GPS on this laptop while driving down to southern California for Christmas, and still had 35% battery left when we got there. The 12 inch screen is small, but twice as bright as my old laptop, and much more color accurate, so I will definitely be doing my photo editing on this machine. Big drawback is the 40 Gb drive, and the biggest laptop drive out there is only 100 Gb, so I'll have to add an external HD to my equipment. On the plus side, this laptop and an external drive is still lighter than my old laptop
Can you tell I just love my new laptop

    Well kind of, sorta.......

Actually I've spent the past few months buying my own goodies in anticipation of the cash I would get at Christmas. The goodies included:

    1) Crumpler Shrinkle backpack - I love my Crumpler Harry Palmer Device, but it was getting crowded and heavy and since I have a bad neck I decided to go with a backpack.

    2) Lensbaby! - I love this little thing so much, and some day when I have time I'll actually take some pictures to post.

    3) Intuos2 6x8 tablet

Yup, that's a star filter. Try putting it on and holding it up to a lightbulb to see the effect it has. It should have a star pattern through the light

That is a really nice lens. It's one of my favorites, although I don't use it as much as I used to. I use it more often than my f1.4 (expensive, over rated, cheap build). I've had both the 1.8 and 1.4 in both EF and FD, and both cases, I liked the 1.8 version better.

That's good to hear! It will be nice to have a least one really fast lens. The rest of my lenses only start at F4. I didn't get it yet but will be getting it any day now.
