    D70 non dedicated flash bonous!

    I have just found out that the d70 flash syncs perfectly ( I think) at 1/8000!!! And all shutter speeds with my non dedicated flash. I have been reading some posts about using dedicated flash above 1/ 500 with sb 600/800 flash and you can do it by covering the two rear contacts.
    With the non dedicated flash no tape is required, and you still get auto light control via the flash! not as good as ttl, but works fine 80-95% of the time!
    This is big news! It should be old news, let me know what you know or can find out.

    Camera and flash set to iso 400 f4. flash, Sunpack 383 super.
    EDIT;
    Its a crapograph,I know, but the exposure is good. And the shutter speed, 1/8000!!!
    Incredible!!! Something must be wrong.

    Re: D70 non dedicated flash bonous!

    On further testing, I have noticed some checkerboarding in the images that don't show up on images sized for the web or 100% crops. don't know how big of an issue it is.

    Mark,

    That's pretty amazing to have a flash still synced at 1/8000! Nice find.

    you sure it syncs at 8000th of a second?
    Although....8000th is not really that useful at all...

    no, 1/8000 is not all that usefull, but this means that at iso 200 you can blance flash & abient light on a very bright day,somthing like f3.2 @ 1/8000 or f4 @ 1/6400. limiting dof a great deal.

    Phenomenal. Not really useful for day to day shooting, but if you're into high speed catches (hummingbirds immediately come to mind) then this is an incredible discovery you've made!

    Re: 1/8000th Of A Second!

    It doesnt work at greater distance outdoors. It must have worked here because it was close to two white walls and the celiing. The checkerboarding I can only guess Are pixels that arent charged at the time of the flash.
    I can imagine that soon there will be shutterless cameras that sync at all speeds that work by sending a timed charge to the sensor.
