    All these talks of Gatherings-BOSTON?

Made me wonder how many people out there are in the Boston, MA (north shore) area that might like to get together or how many people would be interested in aiming towards Massachusetts for a gathering sometime this summer? or fall?

I hear there's a lot to see and I personally haven't seen much of it....

    Sorry Nata...

Boston is just too liberal for my blood. ;)

Actually, I'd be interested in attending a Boston Gathering, but can't commit as of yet. I've never been to Massachusetts (or how ever it's spelled) and I'd love to visit there...

It'll be interesting to see how many reply to this one.

    My favorite city...

I'd try and make it, I have never been there to shoot and there is a lot to see (lived there for four years)

Boston... well... once I started my journey to chicago to meet with everyone I think I would enjoy traveling further to meet people and I've always wanted to go to Boston. I've been everywhere else on the east coast, but I haven't traveled up any further than New York City.
Penny mentioned Washington D.C.... does anyone do gatherings in D.C. ? I lived in Maryland for half of my life and I've given lots of tours of the D.C. area... and everytime I return home I drag someone with me there and if there is enough time they also see Baltimore, Annapolis and even Frederick and Rockville.
So... Boston is a definite yes... what about Maryland and D.C. or Baltimore?

I know that everyone just went to Miami, but West Palm Beach sure is nice in the wintertime ... how long before everyone would come back this way?

I've never been further north than West Virginia on this coast... Boston and DC would be new experiences for me!

    Well, I'm in DC,

and the best time to be here all year is just passed. The Cherry Blossoms are really the one event all year that you wanna be in DC for. All the other 50 weeks we suck

(hot and humid in the summer, cold and snowey in the winter)

Boston has beans all year 'round though.

    Rick,

D.C.'s cherry blossom festival is indeed one of the best times to be there, but I think you underestimate Maryland. You should try living in Missouri for a while... I moved from the mountains of Pennsylvania to Maryland and I used to complain about the freaky Maryland weather, but then I moved here... no one warned me about the freaky weather here... it's like a foreign country...
Don't forget the Inner Harbor in maryland... that's one of the best places, not only for taking pics, but also just for hanging out... okay... so I love maryland... can you tell yet? *smiles*

Well, the best time for a New Yorker...

...to be in Boston would be sometime in the early fall, so we could all exerience and enjoy first hand the Red Sox's annual SWAN DIVE during the pennant race.

Yeah, yeah, I know. Youze Sox fans really loved the two recent series with the Yanks.

All I can say is, enjoy being in first place while you can...

I would love to! As always, it will depend on what I've got going on at work, but I'll definitely try. I've never been to Boston and I'm so ashamed of myself!

    Cool

what does everyone think? June, late July, early August, fall when the leaves are at their prime...

Penny and Gene(and all other NYers interested)--- there's a bus that runs from NY to Boston that's only $10 each way...and one from NY to DC that's about $20 each way...

Let me know seems enough interest is out there...A DC gathering sounds cool too maybe late winter (the Washington "mall) and the smithsonian are beautifully decked out as is the White House (awesome Xmas tour)

Late August/early September should work for me too - July is definitely out, June would be fine. I may be sent to Ohio for a couple of weeks in the August -September timeframe, but I'm not sure when or if I'm even definitely going. What day is it? What year is it? Heh.

    catching up...

Catching up on a couple of weeks' worth of threads...
What was that talk of small towns? I'm from a town of 30,000... OK, so it's part of metro BOSTON.

(I'm actually a former New Yorker. Did some time on the other side of the Mississippi, and eventually found my way back to the Northeast.)

If you folks come up to Boston, I'd love to connect and meet some of you. The photo op possibilities are endless... The downtown historic area, the hills (Blue Hills, Middlesex Fells), the northern coastal towns (Salem, Cape Ann, ...), the lakes/forests to the west (e.g., Walden Pond), taking a ferry across the bay for kicks...

Seems like YOU would be the best suited for the itinerary...I'm only familiar with the Gloucester,Rockport are and Beverly...so mybe you could offer up some reall sight seeing ...I have no clue when it comes to anything outside those three locations

I'd love to - but - this work stuff gets in the way. Haven't been there in ten years and that was a weekend for a wedding so didn't see much. I had cousins that grew up in Marblehead near Devereaux Beach (spelling close?) and I'd like to go back there to spend some time with a camera.

Brian can't make it either since he already commited to the Chicago gathering. I'm not sure if he realized that until he read this though.

    Boston Dates...

as a teacher, my summer is pretty open. July 24-29 they are hosting the Democratic National Convention and the place will be a zoo. I heard trains from the North Shore will not be going to North Station because the convention is in the Fleet Center. Hotel rooms are probably non-existant at this point too.

    Chinatown bus...

The Chinatown bus is around $20. I wouldn't wish Greyhound on anyone, much less the Chinatown bus !

I'll come - and Amtrak runs a nifty little train from NY to Boston for $80 or so round trip. That's what credit cards are for if I don't have the cash!
Heh, I'm *real* picky when it comes to mode of travel. I hate travelling [well I love going places, but hate the journey!] so I'm a spoiled brat and go the most comfortable way.

I second that - avoid Boston during DNC time. Unless you're coming to protest in front of it, which, as I understand, many are planning to do. - Yaron

Back to school time may be hectic too - esp. in terms of accomodations - Boston being such a college town. - Yaron

    Amtrak experience

I went from D.C. to NM over the course of two and half days...no showers...expensive bad food---- and had a drunk man sit on my HEAD while I was sleeping...

sorry suffering from a little post traumatic stress disorder LOL

I will never (maybe some day) ride Amtrak...

The bus has suited me just fine....

    I like Maryland...

But I'd as soon spend the weekend on my couch as go to the Inner Harbor. Sorry! Ballama just ain't my thang.

BUT. Run out to western Maryland or take a walk at Great Falls? Definitely!

You mean - there are other cameras?!?!

Funny, I saw an documentary film last night, and the guy started shooting it in High 8, and finished shooting with a digital. I could tell the difference. I liked the High 8 better.

But I would try a digital back for the Holga should it exist! And it were within my budget I'm po' these days...
