    Adina inspired me

I wasn't going to post this, but figured why not continue the wedding theme...

How to tell the most experienced shooter in a group? They have the least amount of toys on them.

Interesting high key shot Seb. I like it.

So, did you expose for this, or is this a PS job?

Yeah, I'd like to know the process, too...

It's interesting, but to my eyes seems a little too washed out.

Contrary to many people's perception, true high-key images have relatively low overall contrast, and there is normally detail (albeit delicate) in the entire subject.

Anyway, not trying to imply that's what you were aiming for, or that you didn't do it right. Just saying that this pic has a much more graphic quality than a pure high-key image.

    Speed,

Adjustments were made to a properly exposed RAW file.

    Steve,

So do you think it works? Why or why not?

But - you've got the dreaded blown highlights!

I think it's a cool effect, but maybe a little over done especially on the front of her neck where there isn't any detail.

    Thanks for the info buddy!

I haven't had the guts to even try a high key shot yet. The concept is easy enough. Either wash out your subject with lots of light (which I don't have) or overexpose the subject. I know it's actually a lot more technical than that, but that's the basic concept. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I see what you are saying, but to me mood was much more important than the technical details. How does this shot make you feel? How does it make your wife feel?

If you over expose the subject, you'll just have an overexposed subject - it won't necessarily be high key. I'm not a studio guy, but the way I was shown is to throw more light at the background than the film or digital sensor can record. A couple of stops or more will do it.

Seb, I dunno - I'll show it to my wife! I was kidding about the blown highlights - what I meant by that is that this is a case where you knew why you wanted to break the "rules" to get the effect you wanted.

I like it. Didn't even have to ask my wife

Looks more like a drawing than a photo, which is kinda neat.

Thanks Adina. Did the shot evoke any sort of mood when you first saw it?

    Re: Adina inspired me

For me, it seemed kinda whimsical. Soft and wispy, dreamlike.

You know how sometimes you see photos and they are way sharp, and it's almost too sharp? Like you nailed your focus and then usm'd some? For me, those always seem kinda harsh. Like the person has a hard edge, lived a hard life. Great if you're taking photos of a homeless guy or something like that, but I don't like it in most portraits. Granted, you do need to focus, but I don't always want to see every eyelash.

Your bride is the exact opposite of that.

    Did I say that right?

I think I like it for that reason. That's invented line, you know it's there even though you don't see it.

I like it, looks like something you could use as a watermark, cd art, or somthing different.. As a photo though, I think darkening the shadows might make it better.
