    First Field Hockey Frenzy

The latest assignment took the camera gear to a field hockey game between Old Loughtonians and Southgate. Let me know what you think.

Very nice images. You have once again captured a sport at peck action. One of the things I love about really good sports images is the expressions of the competitors. You always seem to give us those great facial contortions that make a good photograph really great, well done.

    Re: First Field Hockey Frenzy

Thanks for your positive comments chaps.

Old Timer - A sports editor once said to me: "Faces, faces and more faces - don't give me backs!" - I guess the message got through!

Tin Cup - These shots (and the football pics in my other post) are taken with a 300mm f2.8 (often with the 1.4x extender) on an EOS 1D MkII. I shoot for a couple of local newspapers so sadly don't get the chance for Premiership action - the competition and the hoops you have to jump through to shoot the big matches is incredible nowadays! I certainly wouldn't turn down the chance to shoot Mr Henry and co. though!

Also, thanks for your comments on the basketball pics. That's by far the toughest sport I've ever tried to shoot - using flash in a real dungeon of an arena. I'm still working on the shooting angles. With football, I'm always trying to shoot as tight as possible - not so easy with basketball. I'll post some of the basketball pics in a separate thread soon as I'd like some advice from those who have shot it before.
