Your Sports Shot of the Year ( Max 2)

I will get it started. Since I started it and I can't choose between my 2 favs, I will ask for a max of two. If you post 2 they can't be from the same sport.

Re: Your Sports Shot of the Year ( Max 2)

Oh boy, I was worried we'd be restricted to one image. And that would have made it next to impossible for me. I have to sit and meditate on this for a while but I expect I'll end up with one bike photo and one ski photo

Your two photos are most worthy! That basketball photo is sweet - for a basketball photo

I actually like your photo a lot better than the one we discussed in that other "Sports Photo of the Year" thread.

And I'm *really* happy to see that Mavericks photo! That's the stuff I want see! As far as Mvs photos go, I don't think it's the best I've ever seen. On the other hand, if I'd taken it, I bet it would be one of my personal favorites too. I should have shot Mavs while I had the chance...

That Mavericks pic is killer. Worked with a girl her last name was Giles. He husband was like legend up there. I am not hot any any pics I took this year but this one is probably one of the better ones.

Hmm. I think this one is mine. I was trying for high key sort of effect on this one.

Hard to pick just one favorite.
This is a picture of Joe Fargis who is a legend in show jumping.
He won two gold medals at the 1984 olympics for the USA jumping team and silver at the 1988 olympics.
I always enjoy watching him compete.

It *is* hard! I'm going to have to have two - one ski and one bike. No way around it

I love this photo. I don't think it matters what sport you're looking at, you can always tell a master by their body position - commited. And Joe here, is fully commited. The concentration and calm on his face are great, too. There's a fine line between scared and focused and he's right there in the zone. I have a friend who's a great mountain bike dirt jumper. He almost looks sleepy when he's in the air, he's so in the zone. It's kinda weird.

A fine and worthy offering. Thanks for sharing!

Ski & Bike - My Favorites

    I had to have two.

And I'll probably have second thoughts about these two. But maybe not. These photos really do stick out in my mind as above and beyond the standard for me.

This photo was taken at the Red Bull Rampage freeride competition in Southern Utah. It's an invite-only competition and there's nothing else like it on earth. I really like the way the rider is suspended against the black abyss in this image. I have photos with bigger, scarier moves. But graphically and artistically, I like this one the best. It was also taken with the Olympus E-5, which I was testing at the time. I actually took what I thought were my most interesting and creative photos at the Rampage with the Olympus and not my Canon. It's not the camera and the Olympus is worthy.

This photo of my friend Dorothy was taken on what I think was my best ski day last season. We went into the Brighton backcountry on a day when the power was out and the lifts were down. We'd planned to take a lift up and then hike but we weren't able to do that. Instead we ended up on this perfect untouched steep slope in the deepest snow any of us skied that season. And Dorothy is always such a great subject. She's a great athlete with excellent form and she's always smiling! I love taking pictures of her. I almost always get something great when she's in front of the camera. Her husband had me make a print of this to give her for Christmas. I was pleased to be able to share it.

If you want to see more of my sports photos, here's a link to my sports gallery. You can make your own sports gallery by using the advanced search in the gallery and entering your user name and selecting the sports category. It's that easy!

Good one, Shiggy! Which camera did you use for that? Maybe it's time for you to upgrade. You've got a job now, right?

Only two pics. As I started going through my images I realized its gonna take me a while to pair it down to two. My portfolio (especially cycling) is getting a huge overhaul next week since I got a ton of IMHO fantastic shots. I tried to push myself to new places with my images.

I used my old Canon PowerShot S3IS (6.0 megapixel). Other than resizing the shot is straight out of the camera. I got a lot of good images that day.

A new camera is on my upgrade list. Probably another closeout model.

I am still learning new things about this one, though. My favorite feature for solo rides is the adjustable self timer delay (up to 30 sec) and then it will take 10 shots.

Glad you like that. Like your Mavericks photo, it helps to be shooting the best athletes in the world on the most extreme terrain

Thanks a lot for starting this thread. I am really enjoying it and hope people keep adding to it. We need to make sure this happens every year. It's a good exercise to review your work from the past year and it's really nice to get inspiration from other people's favorites.
