    Speed of LR3?

Is Lightroom 3 slower than previous versions or is it just my computer? I takes much longer to upload pictures. I upload with a card reader if that makes a difference? :mad2:

Greg, I also upload to Lightroom 3 (LR3) with a card reader and I do not find that it is a slow process, at least for me. I have learned from other forums that a lot depends on the process(es) you have on your upload, for example, how many images are you trying to upload at once, well one at a time, but you know what I mean? Do you use presets such as a metadata preset, or others, when you upload? Do you do a lot of file renaming when you upload? How do you render the previews when you upload? Are you uploading only RAW or RAW+jpeg? Do you use Minimal, Embedded&Sidecar, Standard or 1:1 to render your previews? If you use anything other than the "Minimal" file handling to render your previews when you upload, then LR3 will take a while to upload, because with the others, particularly 1:1, it is building high quality previews as it goes. With "Minimal", it doesn't build the high quality previews until you zoom in on an image and I don't mind waiting a few seconds when I zoom in on an image, besides, I have a two monitor system and when I am looking at the grid view of my images, a full-blown larger image is being displayed on my second monitor. If you don't have two monitors, then this does not apply to you.

If you can give me some answers to these questions, then maybe I can offer more suggestions. Hope this helps a bit.

    Cheers,

I just switched from Version 2 to Version 3. If anything, I have found LR3 to be faster with the cameras I use. The CF card uses a simple cheap card reader, the SD cards get read from the computer's SD slot.

Last time was just RAW but I have uploaded RAW+Super fine Jpg. You have given me some tips. I doubt it's my computer. It's reasonably fast. Windows 7, 64bit.
