Imaging Software with Special Effects

Hi all.

I recently saw some photos where effects like fantasy wings, lighting, and other objects, were added to the subjects of a digital photo.

Does anyone know what software was used to do these cool special effects?

Without seeing the photos it's hard to say how they were done. It may be that a lot of work went into each one. There is a lot of special effect software available - especially as Photoshop plugins.
