    Variations on a theme

I'd like to hear your opinions of these differing crops from a couple similar originals. Because of the strange aspect ratios, I don't think any stand well on there own, but think they could work in concert with other snow patterns that I've posted recently.

As JK has mentioned, it works very well as an abstract composition you have created by posting the individual croping ontop of one another. Would be curious to see what you have there but rotated 90 degrees counter clock wise..

    cheers..

Jon and Paul, thanks for the suggestion. I think I'll print one out like that. Your suggestion is so completely in a new direction that it got me thinking even more outside my usual box. I took your idea and made a couple subtle changes to come up with this.

    Chunk,

I thought I'd lost the plot for a while. I loved the photo and then I realised you were talking about different crops. I liked it as one photo which is what I thought it was. Perhaps I need to read the text before looking at the photo.

In any case I like the first as a single photo and the second - great idea

    Re: Variations on a theme

Do you appreciate how strong an optical illusion you've created there?
Unless I measure it with a straight edge, each of those photos looks a different SHAPE let alone the cropping of the content.
Just print that as it and it's a winner in my book.

I know it wsan't what you intended, but it's great !

    Re: Variations on a theme

Great abstract works. Though I love the colors, the over-manipulation of it is a little too much (I think atleast). I love the original, just not so much the colors, though it is a very high resemblence of the 'pop-art' we see nowadays. Great shots, but I prefer the first set of crops.

    Re: Variations on a theme

It's just me but I don't find any of the crops particularly interesting. I think the problem is in the subject matter more than anything else. I can see what you were interesting in but I can't see any way to capture it better.

    Re: Variations on a theme

I think I would agree with Trevor here in that I don't find any of the crops particuliarly appealing. however, and i think this is what Paul meant, I feel that if you took the entire image ( first ones posted) the four crops together as you have it, and turned the entire image so that it is a vertical comp seeems to have mnore appeal for me. Not sure why but looking at it horizontally does not feel right to me, but when i look at it so its vertical, it feels right. Just my thoughts, of course

    Re: Variations on a theme

Thanks to everyone for taking the time to express your opinions. The reason I posted this is because I felt like Trevor and Gary that it wasn't very strong. While taking the shot I knew that the roof was all that I found interesting but I was expecting a better feeling from the crops. The composite suggested by many of you was a complete surprise to me and I will pick up a print of that (and the colored one) this afternoon. I have a friend who I think will really like the colored one. For those who wonder about it, here's the original scene.

cool, I surely see your interest in the roof with its patterns and the remains of the snow and ice. I also like the circular patterns in the snowy field.
