    On a kayaking theme

Grabbed this shot off my hotel balcony in San Diego one morning last December. Thought its simplicity was appealing.

I wish it was sharper, but the lens I used was only the kit lens that came with the Rebel.

Did you take another, with the kayak approaching the right edge?
The 'negative' space on the left is too much for me.

    love this!

    Hi KellyBean
here is what your image looked like after I messed with those levels, contrasst and satt... It may be too much, but just thought Id show you.
I like your second shot too, but I really like your first best!

    You busy bee traveler!
This is great, and I think the negative space COMPLETELY WORKS!!! I really like it!
I took your photo and upped the levels, contrast and saturation to give the water a little more life and depth to counter the lack of sharpness you mentioned....
    Try it!

I did, here it is. I did some down and dirty quick adjustments in ps. I still don't have those down yet, so the whites might be a bit blown out.

But here it is to compare compositions.

Here's my favorite kayak shot... (that I've taken)

    I like yours as well!

Kelly, here's my take. First of all, I like them both. #1 is calming.I like the negative space, in fact, it makes the shot. His paddle in the air also looks cool. #2 has an interesting pattern made by the wake and the shot has movement and excitement. Basically, both are equally good depending on what someone feels like on the day they look at them. They both look like sunday morning.

couldn't have said it better. i think the huge field of water in the first helps draw attention to just how free such a small boat is in a huge expanse of water. as for the second, i'd say the only benefit is having the wake cutting through which is equally cool.

Which is what I was wondering, I thought the wake would be interesting.
    Thanks for posting it!

Comparing the two is difficult, having seen it, I think the first one is a better photo.
But I think among non-photographers the second might be more popular?
