Lower camera angle would have given it a bit more pop. It would have made the people stand out above the horizon. I like it the way it is, though.

This is not a bad shot. Too bad there was not more clouds to give a bit of details in the sky. Also clouds tend to take many different colors during sunsets.

My only comment is that the horizon is not perfectly straight. It's barely noticeable, but it's there!

    Cheers,

There are always nits on any image as have been pointed out, but for a self protrait of you and your buddies in an exotic place I think it rocks. Nice job.

    Re: Sunset Silhouette

    Hello Noslocg.

Very nice shot you have posted, makes me want to be with you and your buddies staring into that beautiful sunset. siiiiigh

Let me be analitical for a moment, if I may, (for my beneifit as much as anything). I tried to see where the focal point is in this image and I keep jumping from the sillouttes of the bodies to the sunset in the back ground. To me both elements have an "equal" value in the image.

A lower angle as suggested by FadderUri and maybe filling the frame with the sillouettes would give promiance to the sillouettes.......????

Reducing the number of bodies in the sillouette or pulling back a little hence reducing the impact of the sillouette on the scene may give a little more prominance to the sunset....???

Does this make sense to anyone or am I just trying too hard?????

Thanks for the use of your image Noslocg, I still think this is a very good shot.

    Welcome to PR! Good post....
    Wish i was there too

I can see how the suggestions that other gave may give it a little more pop....all good suggestions.
but my suggestion is for post processing, I think if you did a tight crop on the silhouettes, It would help the eye a little to have less space to wander around ?

    Irish-

Thanks for the comments, sounds like I am going to have to go back and take the shot over again.... I think it may be a while before I get around to that. I do have a question though. I see what you are saying about two subjects in the picture, making the eye wander between the sunset and the people, but my thought is that if I were to lower the camera angle the silhouettes would block out the sun/mountains. Is this a good technique? Both you and FadderUri said the same thing so you must have a good reason. Just wondering.

As far as post processing goes, how far in would you cut out the silhouettes?... take out the sunset? Leave it in and crop the sides? I guess I am not seeing a good cut off point for cropping... feel free to enlighten me

    Re: Sunset Silhouette

I like the shot. I'd be afraid a lower angle would divide the silhouettes in half. I like the strength of all the silhouettes sharing the same background. I like that they are all in different, interesting positions, and all their positions still look defined and human -- you don't have any blobs of "what is that?" in there. All the elements are strong, I think they all came together for you and you planned this shot well. I'm really not seeing weaknesses in this shot.

Maybe crop the top just to get rid of that little blob of branch in the upper right.

    Hello Noslocg

My comments were more a question that I would like answered for myself and not being critical of your image. I often see many things I would like to include in my images and have trouble deciding on what to focus or how to make that focal point obvious to the viewer.

If you want to focus wholly on the sillouette then this technique may work, giving a brighter/stronger light behind the sillouette. Is it good?? Kellybean may be right?? She may be able to see a little better as the camera would "see" than I can at the moment. If I had both images side by side I could answer your question more definately.

I don't think I am in a position to enlighten anyone, I am learning myself and more questions than answers.

But since you asked I'll give it a try.....concentrate on the sillouette......no sunset.... Is it better??? You tell me.
