ReedRosa, could you answer a few questions before I give my opinion? Why does it look so painterly? What time of day was it and what settings did you use? When I look at it, it looks heavily ps'd. which is why I can't figure out what you did. I'll come back to it when I think about it for a while.

    Re: Sunflower closeup

that is a neat photo how did you get the colors to look like that? Is it over exposed? what are you going to do to it once you put it in photoshop?

BTW Corel Painter is a really good program to use, it would look great if you turned it into a painting using painters filters.

Not sure what to do to correct this but it doesn't work for me personally.

Looks a little blurred as well as the fact that the Grass behind looks like its exposed differently from the flower, making it look layered. Coulda fooled me that you didnt use Photoshop

I think it would have worked a bit better if the entire flower had been in the frame, instead of being cropped at the edges. Also, the background looks way over exposed, while the flower itself almost looks slightly under exposed. I've seen sunflowers with that type of coloring before, but it's been years. Where did you shoot it?

    Re: Sunflower closeup

This was shot with my Canon A80. I had just gotten it and don't remember any of the settings. I do remember it was on manual mode, so it may have been a little over exposed. Also I was still learning the camera at the time and kept having trouble setting the White Balance the way I wanted. It may have had the white balance set to Tungnsten, for indoor incandescent bulb light, instead of natural light or auto white balance.

This was taken around noon, on a clear day with the sun overhead, but slightly behind me. The sunflowers were ones I planted in my backyard and this one and few others were the only ones that did well at all. The were real short this year, but I loved the orange colors they made.
