Hey SWB,

A very interesting fruit indeed. Unfortunately, this image doesn't grab me. I don't know if it's the lighting, composition, focal point, or DOF. But, that's just me and other views will differ..

I do think that this has some good potential to reshoot.

How about the crop?
I think maybe the whole frame is too busy.
Too many fruit there. perhaps.

It almost looks like some type of albino grape. I'll bet it would be cool if you used some different colored gels on it.

The transparent qualities of the fruit makes your shots work nicely - especially the second for it's composition as well as the exposure/lighting.

Gooseberry is the fruits name , they can be quite good .

The berries were only about 7mm across, and were mature at the time.
I was told by a friend this is Johannisbeer, but I've found one reference that says it translates to Blackcurrant. - and theses are not black !!
All the recipies I've seen use black Johannisbeer and the fruit seems to be red when cooked into a crumble. http://www.marions-kochbuch.de/rezept/1307.jpg
So I don't think this is an ordinary Johannisbeer, if that's what it is.

Gooseberry is green, at least the cultivated variety (we have some in the garden) and the fruit is more elongated. But I'm still struggling to identify it.

Well duh !! Those berries are I photographed are white and currant-shaped.

I wondered how to improve fromt that first whole-frame shot. First time really I've sat down and had to think hard about cropping for a better composition, glad you like it.
The nagging question is though, is it the best crop from the original?

I'm still struggling with composition, I seem sometimes to naturally get it right and really don't have a handle on the language of image composition. I'm sure that there are conventions in composition that I'm unaware of.
